Dillon hands Marlboro County first loss with 35-12 triumph

Dillon – The Dillon High School football team scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to hand Marlboro County its first loss of the season in a 35-12 victory on Friday at the DHS field.

 

 The Wildcats, ranked sixth in the High School Sports Report AAA poll,  improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in Region 7-AAA. Second-ranked MCHS dropped to 6-1 and 2-1.

 

 Dillon took a 14-12 lead into the fourth quarter. Jamarion Fling had a 2-yard touchdown run early in the quarter to make it 21-12. The final two TDs were defensive scores. Kelvion Manning returned a fumble 49 yards and Dan Graves took one of his two interceptions 53 yards.

 

 Fling led the DHS offense with 127 yards and two scores on 20 carries. Dominick Felton had 73 yards and a TD on 14 carries. Rike Niyongabo had three catches for 62 yards.

 

Keryien Brown had 17 tackles, one quarterback sack and one tackle for loss to lead the Wildcat defense. Daniel Capehart had 16 tackles and one TFL.

 

Manning 49

Atlantic Collegiate 10

 

Manning Manning won its seventh straight game with a 49-10 triumph over Atlantic Collegiate Academy on Friday at Ramsey Stadium.

 

Jeffery Ceasar led the Monarchs, who are 7-1 overall and 4-0 n Region 7-AA, by returning a kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown and a punt 67 yards for another score.

 

Jalynn Coard ran for two touchdowns while Joshua Cooper had a TD run while carrying the ball eight times for 49 yards. Ja’Rae Mitchell completed 5 of 7 passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. Justin Thompson had two catches for 48 yards and a TD.

 

Dayvon Bannister led the defense by returning an interception 92 yards for a score, Coard had two TFLs.


       The Monarchs, ranked eight in the AA poll, improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 7. ACA fell to 1-6 and 1-3


Sumter 49

Blythewood 20


Sumter -- John Peeples scored five touchdowns to become Sumter's career touchdown leader in the Gamecocks' 49-20 victory over Blythewood on Friday at Memorial Stadium.


Peeples ran for four of the touchdowns and caught a 37-yard pass for a score. He went into the game with 67 TDs, trailing Roderick McDowell by one. Peeples now has 72 touchdowns.


He rushed for 106 yards on 20 carries. Kam Fortune ran for 114 yards and a score on 10 carries and caught a 12-yard pass. Quarterback Franklin Richardson rushed for 26 yards on eight carries.


Richardson completed 9 of 12 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Jayden Kennedy had three catches for 131 yards and a touchdown.


Anthony Addison led the defense with 10 tackles, 2 TFLs and two sacks. Tymaries Durant had nine tackles, 1 1/2 TFLs and one sack, and Jeremiah Burson had seven tackles,  one interception, a forced fumble and two pas breakups.


Sumter, ranked third in the AAAAA Division 1 poll, improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 5. Blythewood, which is ranked 10th in AAAAA Division I, dropped to 6-3 and 2-3.

 

Dutch Fork 42

Lexington 0

 

 Lexington – Top-ranked Dutch Fork improved to 7-0 on the season with a 42-0 high school football victory over Lexington on Friday at Wildcat Hollow.

 

 Quarterback Ethan offing completed 19 of 28 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns to the lead Silver Foxes, who improved to 3-0 in Region 4. Boykin Bickley had seven catches for 105 yards, Isaac Shine had six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown, and KJ Smith had three catches for 57 yards and a score.

 

 Shine also rushed for 46 yards and a score on 11 carries. Smith had three carries for 25 yards and a TD, and Brayden Johnson ran for 32 yards and a score on three carries.

 

Jayden Westbrook returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown.

 

Brennon Carpenter completed 12 of 26 passes for 167 yards to lead Lexington, which fell to 5-3 and 1-2. Nigel Lewis had three catches for 78 yards.


         Dutch Fork is ranked No. 1 in the AAAAA Division I poll while Lexington is ranked ninth.

 

Northwestern 55

Rock Hill 7

 

 Rock Hill Northwestern exploded for 34 points in the second quarter on the way to a 55-7 victory over Rock Hill on Friday at District 3 Stadium.

 

The Trojans, ranked third in the AAAAA Division II poll, improved to 9-0 on the season and 5-0 in Region ?. The Bearcats fell to 5-4 and 4-1.

 

Finley Polk completed 14 of 16 passes for 175 yards and two scores and ran for 23 yards and three TDs on seven carries to lead NHS. McCrea Knight and Evan Harrison also threw touchdown passes.

 

CJ Broughton had five catches for 105 yards and a TD. Daniel Caldwell had four catches for 60 yards and a score, and TaDarrian Knox and David Hood both had TD receptions.

 

Will Massey led the defense with 11 tackles, while Jayden Baxter and Tamario Watkins both had interceptions,

 

Kason Kanupp completed 12 of 22 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown to lead the Bearcats. EJ Ratley caught the scoring pass, while Shrine Bowl selection Malik Clark had six catches for 122 yards.

 

Gaffney 28

Riverside 21

 

Greer – Jamarcus Smith broke off a 54-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to lift Gaffney to a 28-21 victory over Riverside on Friday at the RHS field.

 

The game was tied 21-21 when Smith scored on the second play of the drive. Evan Olson added the extra point to make it 28-21 with 9:30 left in the game.

 

Smith rushed for 203 yards and the TD on 14 carries. Trason Snith ran for 33 yards on five carries and had a 31-yard scoring run in the third quarter to tie the game at 21-21.

 

 The Indians, ranked No. 1 in the AAAAA DII poll, improved to 7-0 on the season and ?-0 in Region 2-AAAAA. They, got their first touchdown on a 75-yard interception return by Viante Robbs in the first quarter. Andrew Ruppe had a 1-yard TD run in the second quarter.

 

Kendaris Bailey led the Indian defense with seven tackles and three quarterback sacks.

 

         Riverside’s Somad Eaddy had a 90-yard interception return for a score. Mikkel Skinner had a 2-yard scoring run and caught a 13-yard TD pass from Gideon Merhib.

 

         Skinner had six catches for 87 yards and carried the ball eight times for 18 yards. Merhib connected on 13 of 20 passes for 111 yards. Owen Down had a 46-yard interception to go with three tackles.


Riverside, ranked sixth, fell to 4-2 and 1-2.

 

         

         Lake City 41

         Marion 0

 

         Lake City Lake City picked up its third straight victory with a 41-0 shutout of Marion on Friday at the LCHS field.

 

         The Panthers improved to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in Region 7-AA. Marion fell to 1-7 and 0-4.

 

         Amari Hanna completed 6 of 7 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a score as well. Blayne Edwards caught two passes for 90 yards and a touchdown.

 

      Treshon Burgess had an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and also ran for two scores.

 

         Rakeem McCray led the defense with six tackles for loss. Devin Cockfield had nine tackles, three tackles for loss, an interception and a quarterback pressure.

 

         Dorchester 27

         Carolina 7

 

         Lake City Dorchester Academy remained undefeated with a 27-7 victory over Carolina Academy on Friday at the CA field.

 

         The Raiders, ranked third in the SCISA Class A poll,  are now 7-0 overall and 2-0 in SCISA Region 1-Class A. The fifth-ranked Bobcats fell to 4-3 and 0-2.

 

         John Whetsell carried the football 35 times for 209 yards and three touchdowns to lead Dorchester,. John Quattlebaum completed 11 of 15 passes for 147 yards and a TD.

 

         Wynn Kuskey had five catches for 61 yards and a score. Abe Shuler had five catches for 66 yards, and Noah Risher had three catches for 25 yards.

 

         Layton Wimberly led the DA defense with 10 tackles. Quattlebaucrim had five tackles, Warren Judy had three tackles and two sacks, Landon Crisp had three tackles and one TFL, and Brenner Dantzler had an interception.

 

         Scott’s Branch 68

         Bethune-Bowman 6

 

         Summerton – Dresean Blanding scored two defensive touchdowns to lead Scott’s Branch to a 68-6 victory over Bethune-Bowman on Friday at Earnest Spann Stadium.

 

         Blanding, a senior linebacker, returned an interception for a touchdown and recovered a fumble for a score. He also had 10 tackles, two TFLs and a pass deflection.

 

         The Eagles, who were winless last season, are now 3-5 in their first season under head coach Patrick Fleming. They are 2-2 in Region 5-Class A.

 

         The Mohawks fell to 1-8 and 1-4.

 

T.L. Hanna 42

J.L. Mann 20

 

Anderson --- T.L. Hanna improved to 4-2 overall with a 42-20 victory over J.L. Mann on Thursday at the Hanna field,

 

Daylin Williams and KD Patterson both had two touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets, who are ranked 10th in the AAAAA DII poll.. Antonio Hatton returned a kickoff 98 yards for a score.

 

 Mann, ranked fourth in the AAAAA DI poll, fell to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Region 1-AAAAA. Hanna is also 2-1 in region play.

 

 

Saluda 33

Ninety Six 7

 

Ninety Six Saluda remained undefeated on the season with a 33-7 victory over Ninety Six on Friday at the NSHS field.

 

 The Tigers, who are ranked No, 1 in AA, now own an overall record of 6-0 and a Region 2-AA record of 2-0. Ninety Six fell to

 

SHS led 6-0 after one quarter before Ninety Six took a 7-6 lead early in the second quarter. However, Saluda rebounded for a 19-7 halftime lead and scored 14 points in the final quarter to put the game away.

 

Brayden Williams had a huge game for the Tigers, rushing for 151 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries. He also had two catches for 55 yards and another score.

 

Tristan Daniels rushed for 76 yards and a TD on 15 carries, while Drew Arant completed 6 of 14 passes for 93 yards and a TD.

 

Akiem Mills led the SHS defense with 12 tackles. Devon Wallace had 11 tackles, two sacks and two TFLs, and JT Lott had eight tackles, one sack and one TFL.

 

Gabe Hackett rushed for 55 yards and Ninety Six’s only TD. Zay King had 60 yards on 18 carries

 

Northside Christian 28

Trinity Collegiate 20

 

Lexington Northside Christian Academy improved to 7-1 with a 28-20 victory over Trinity Collegiate on Friday at the NCA field,

 

 The triumph gave Crusaders head coach Dean Howell his 100th career victory. Northside improved to 1-1 in SCISA Region 2-AAA. The Titans dropped to 3-5 and 1-2.

 

Sam Burks rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. BJ Suits threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Jake Jeffrey.

Baker Publisher Moncks Corner —With thanks to the web site “High School Football America’s Draft Tracker” the HSSR is very proud of the 8 young men who played high school football in the state of South Carolina who had their names called in the recent NFL draft, held in Green Bay Wisconsin. While we already knew the majority of these athletes drafted, based on watching the draft in real time, this wonderful “High School Football America’s Draft Tracker” allows us to verify which states had the most players drafted, and share our own feelings about how the state of South Carolina stacks up against the rest of the nation based on sheer population numbers among other factors. In the recent draft the top 10 states in players drafted from high schools in each state included: Texas (36), Florida (24), Georgia (22), California (15), Virginia (10), with Michigan , Alabama , and North Carolina next with 9 each, while South Carolina and Maryland closed out the nation’s top 10 states at 8 each. As someone who has followed the NFL draft closely for the past 40 years, this reporter was a bit surprised at some of the NFL numbers produced by states who use to average more drafted high school players, than they produced in the 2025 draft. For example, the state of Ohio, with a population of 11.88 million people had just seven home grown players drafted in 2025. Pennsylvania, with a population of 13.8 million people had just five former high school players drafted! The 8 players from South Carolina include three from the Gamecocks. They include former Irmo FS Nick Emmanwori , (pick 35 by Seatle), former Marion star DL T.J. Sanders (pick 41 by Buffalo), and former Conway stand-out Tonka Hemingway (pick 135 by Las Vegas). Former Hammond five-star rated DL Jordan Burch , who spent the past two seasons at Oregon, after starting his career with South Carolina was pick 78 by Arizona. Former Clover High WR and Virgina Tech player Jaylin Lane went to Washington with the 128 th pick. Louisville’s Quincey Riley, a CB who played at AC Flora was drafted by New Orleans with pick 131. Former Gaffney stud and Georgia DL Tyrion Ingram - Dawkins was chosen by Minnesota with pick 139. The 8 th and final player drafted from the state of South Carolina was former Rock Hill and current Alabama tight end Robbie Ouzts. Based on a per capita formula, factored mainly on population and number of high schools in each state fielding a varsity football team, the state of South Carolina must be considered one of the top states in the nation for producing NFL talent year-end and year-out. Let’s compare the bordering states of North and South Carolina to document real data. The state of North Carolina produced 9 NFL signees in the recent draft, one more than South Carolina. They have a population of 11 million people, with nearly 525 high school varsity football programs. (Both public and private schools) The state of South Carolina has a population of 5.4 million people with around 252 public and private varsity football programs in the Palmetto State. On this per capita formula one would have to give the edge to South Carolina is the actual production of NFL talent based on the criteria used. The aforementioned information is a key reason the HSSR continues to complain about the accuracy of national recruiting services, who put out lists, in advance of the upcoming May Evaluation football recruiting period. As of April, 27 th 247 Sports listed 15 2026 players from the state of North Carolina in their national Top 247 Player list while only listing three players from the state of South Carolina! If this does not confirm a bias towards the state of South Carolina we hardly know what would! The facts are the facts. Going back 40 years there has only been an average difference of around two players a year difference between the two states in prep players going on to be drafted in the NFL despite the fact the state of North Carolina has twice the population and twice the number of high schools playing football. If you currently have 15 players in their Top 247 from North Carolina, the state of South Carolina should have at least 12 players in the current 2026 class on their list based on real data over time! The three prep players listed from South Carolina include South Pointe FS J’Zavien Currence , committed to South Carolina and Dorman FS Kentavious Anderson , a hard lean-to Clemson, along with Dutch Fork DE Julian Walker who is uncommitted. Numerous players in South Carolina, with 10 or more major college offers did not make the national 247 list headed up by Timberland OL Desmond Green who will come into the May recruiting period with 21 major college offers. Finally, there are only 20 players from South Carolina currently listed on the 247 state-by-state list, despite the fact the Palmetto State had 40 players sign on with major college football programs in 2025! At the same time, 247 Sports lists 54 players on the North Carolina state-by-state list for May evaluation. Does this seem fair? Three months ago, the HSSR pointed out that six of the 80 players invited to participate in the Next Level Under Armour All-American game, for rising freshmen were from the state of South Carolina. This all-star game was played in Orlando, Florida and witnessed by numerous national scouting services, If the 2030 football class from South Carolina does not have five or six players on All National Top 300 list we should all throw up our hands and wonder who is behind a bias that is not properly promoting the talent level of high school football in South Carolina.
