Latta's Erianna Crawford finishes second in 100 dash in Class A girls track state meet
Crawford finishes 5th in 200; Malik Grace 4th in 100, 6th in 200 in boys meet
Latta – Erianna Crawford finished second in the 100-meter dash and placed in the 200-meter dash to lead the Latta High School girls track and field team in the Class A state meet on May 16 at Spring Valley High’s Harry Parone Stadium in Columbia.
Crawford ran the 100 in 12.28 seconds. She finished fifth in the 200 in 26.49. The other Viking girl to place was Ahliyah Smiling with a seventh-place finish in the discus.
Latta girls who qualified for state but didn’t place were Harmony Hiines in the 100-meter hurdles, Kaylani Spivey in the javelin and the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams.
On the boys side, sprinter Malik Grace led the way. He placed in both the 100 and 200, finishing fourth and sixth, respectively.
The 4x1 relay team also finished fourth while Henry Miller was fifth in the javelin.
Cooper Grainger qualified for the 1,600-meter run but did not place.
In the Class A lower state meet held at Carvers Bay in Hemingway on May 9, Miller was the lower state champion in the javelin.
The Region 6 meet was also held at Carvers Bay, and Latta had three girls win region titles and two boys.
Crawford won the region in both the 100 and 200 while Hines was the region champion in the 100 hurdles. Miller claimed the region title in the javelin, while Anthony Williams won the high jump title.
