Lamar softball team has "awesome" season reaching championship round of district tournament
Silver Foxes push Ridge Spring-Monetta to if game while finishing year with 18-11 record
Lamar – It’s kind of hard to hide the enthusiasm Shane Brantley had for the just completed season of the Lamar High School softball team.
“Awesome season,” the Silver Foxes head coach said. “The girls worked really hard and fought hard all year.”
The results were an 18-11 overall record and a 10-2 mark in Region 2-Class A, good for second place. Lamar reached the championship round of its district tournament in the state playoffs, pushing Ridge Spring-Monetta to the if game before falling.
The Foxes had five players selected to the All-Region team in Ansley Brantley, Cheyenne Anderson, Jordyn Scarborough, Isabella Hayes and Sadie McManus.
Ansley Brantley was also selected to the Class A All-State team. She batted .329 with 45 runs scored and 13 runs batted in. Anderson batted .368, McManus .333 and Hayes .346.
Scarborough batted an even .400 to go with seven doubles, two triples and two home runs. Hayes had 11 doubles, a triple and a homer.
Lamar stole an amazing 354 bases. Ansley Brantley led the way with 54 followed by Scarborough with 44, Anderson with 39, McManus with 35 and Kynley Brantley with 30.
“This was the fastest team I have ever had,” said Coach Brantley.
Hayes and Ansley Brantley shared the pitching duties. Brantley worked 57 innings and had a 4.79 earned run average. Hayes had a 4.81 ERA in 54 innings.
What’s the only thing that might get Coach Brantley more excited than the just completed season?
“I can’t wait to see what next year holds as we have everybody returning,” he said.
