Golden Eagles sports team unaffected by SCISA reclassification

Mullins – After winning the SCISA 3A girls basketball state championship last season, Pee Dee Academy lost a number of key players to graduation.

While the Golden Eagles didn’t have the gaudy record like the year before, they still had a solid season in 2025-26. PDA finished with an 11-11 record and reached the quarterfinals of the state tournament.

Pee Dee finished tied for second in Region 3-AAA. It also played in the region tournament championship game.

Senior Sydny King was named to the All-Region team along with freshman Addison Hasty. King and Hasty were also named to the region All-Tournament team along with senior Nylee Jane Causey.

King was also selected to play in the SCISA North-South All-Star Game.

PDA beat Colleton Prep Academy 30-18 in the first round of the state tournament. The Eagles saw their season end in the quarterfinals with a 43-29 loss to Florence Christian School. Four of Pee Dee’s losses came at the hands of FCS, which ended up winning the state title.

           PEE DEE BOYS FINISH 4-15

The Pee Dee boys basketball team didn’t win a state title last year, but it did get to the championship game. Like the girls, the Eagles boys lost a lot of talent from that team, so head coach
Kyle Drew knew this season could be difficult.

PDA finished with a 4-15 record and missed out on the state tournament. However, Drew is looking at the positives of the just completed season.

“All of players are returning,” said Drew, who lost seven seniors from the state runner-sdup team. “We look forward to improving next year and getting back to Pee Dee basketball.”

Of the 11-man roster, seven of them were freshmen. There were two juniors and two sophomores. Eight of them played in at least 17 games.

Junior Lucas Rogers was easily the go-to player for Pee Dee. Rogers, who was named to the All-Region team, was the team’s only double-figure scorer, averaging 19.1 points per game. He also led the team in rebounding at 6.2.

Rogers was also selected for the North-South Game.

Junior Jesse Smith averaged 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds. Freshman Neal Byrd grabbed 5.9 rebounds to go with 3.7 points. Junior Miles Wiggins averaged 5.6 points.

NOTHING CHANGES AFTER RECLASSIFICATION

Nothing will change for Pee Dee after the release of SCISA’s biannual reclassification.

The Eagles football team will play for the AA championship. All of the school’s other teams will play at the AAA level.
