Dillon Christian School’s Lily King Named “NETC” Female Student Athlete of the Month

Lily's versatility, dedication, and willingness to challenge herself academically, and athletically, make her an outstanding example of the well-rounded student-athlete experience at the Dillon Christian School.
King said she enjoys Basketball, Soccer and Cheer, but Volleyball is her favorite sport. She started playing soccer in the 5th Grade, then both Volleyball and Basketball in the 6th Grade. Looking for more to do, she added Cheerleading in her junior year.
When asked about the commitment for multiple sports, and overlapping seasons, Lily said the biggest lesson was “learning not to procrastinate, or put off getting my school work done.” She’s earned All- Region honors twice in both Volleyball and Basketball, plus earned a spot on the North/South Basketball team as a sophomore.
In the classroom he carries a 3.9 GPA, and she says that after high school she doesn’t expect to have time for next level sports while pursuing a degree as a Speech Therapist at either Clemson or USC.
For all his athletic and academic accomplishments, King has been chosen the “NETC” Female Student Athlete of the Month.”
This honor is bestowed through a partnership between the Northeastern Technical College and “The High School Sports Report” with the publication communicating with athletic directors at high schools in the counties of Dillon, Marlboro, and Chesterfield, where NETC serves the needs of high school students seeking to earn dual credits in various subjects that can be transferred to colleges after a student’s high school graduation.
The NETC is currently offering over 44 online dual credit courses for the 2024-25 school year to students in the three counties they serve.
Lily has completed MUS-101 and SOC-101 and is currently enrolled in ENG-101 (English Composition I) and HIS-101 (World History). Through Dual Credit provided by the “NETC”, Lily is gaining valuable experience with college-level coursework while earning credits that can fulfill both high school and college requirements. This opportunity allows her to become familiar with the academic expectations and rigor of college, while continuing to pursue her high school education.
When asked about what the “NETC” did to help her, King said, “This helped me realize I can’t wait until the last minute to get stuff done, and best of all, I get to experience what college classes will be like,” she said.
Overall, King says the online classes are good experiences through “NETC”. She learned valuable time management skills. She has learned to schedule her work plan for Monday through Friday, with the college work on Wednesday and Friday. Plus, as a senior she has two study halls this year, and that also gives her time to get work done.
King recalled her favorite times in sports are a combination of many memories. “The locker room antics and funny talk with friends always makes for good memories,” she said. “Then while playing Volleyball last season, one of our games went to overtime, and I made the game winning tip and it was a great feeling to be congratulated by my teammates.”.
