Silver Foxes in upper half of Region 3-Class A races

Lamar – Head coach Adam Fedewa has seen some things he really likes about his Lamar High School baseball team. And then, not so much.

“I think we’ve shown glimpses of being a special baseball team, but we’ve also shown a lack of focus at times which has cost us in some contests,” Fedewa said. .”Finding stability is still our missing element.”

Coming out of spring break though, the Silver Foxes owned a 10-4 overall record. More importantly though, they were 6-1 in Region 3-Class A.

Lamar returned six starters from last year’s 13-12 team that reached the championship round of its district tournament in the state playoffs.

The batting order has Aiden Munn leading off and starting in right field. Zori Pierce starts in center and bats in the 2 hole with catcher Cody Barr batting third.

Hayden Timmons, who pitches, plays the outfield and serves as the designated hitter, bats cleanup. First baseman Messiah Simes bats fifth, and third baseman Ryan Hill is in the 6 hole.

The order rounds out with shortstop Ethan Munn hitting seventh, second baseman LT Weatherly eighth and Tucker Watford ninth.

Watford, Timmons and Barr as the closer see most of the important innings on the mound.

           LAMAR SOFTBALL 10-2 IN REGION

The Lamar softball team is having a strong season. The Silver Foxes arre 13-8 overall and 10-2 in region play, good for second place behind defending Upper State champion Lewisville.

The Silver Foxes were hitting .350 as a team and are led by sophomore Isabella Hayes with a .485 batting average. Hayes had six doubles, a triple and a home run to go with a team high 17 runs batted in.

Junior Cheyanne Anderson was batting .433 with seven doubles, eighth-grader Jordyn Scarbrough was hitting .375 with 18 runs scored, junior Ryley Nichols was hitting .333, seventh-grader Sadie McManus was hitting .323, M Bullard is hitting .321, freshman Taylor Guinn was hitting .320, junior Gabby Mendiola was hitting .312, and junior Ansley Brantley was hitting .303.

The Silver Foxes run the bases with abandon as they’ve stolen 125. Leading the charge is Brantley with 20 while Guinn and McManus both had 18, Scarbrough 15, Anderson 12 and freshman Kynley Brantley 10.

Hayes leads in innings pitched with 38. She had 44 strikeouts and a 4.42 earned run average. Ansley Brantley has worked 21 2/3 innings with a 3.55 ERA.
