NETC Female Student Athlete of the Month:  Dillon Christian's Molly Andrews

DillonDillon Christian three-sport athlete Molly Andrews has committed to play college softball at Coker College next season, after batting .460 with 22 RBI’s and seven home runs for her team as a junior.

She is currently a four-year starter on the volleyball team at Dillon Christian, where she is a talented left-side hitter. She has also been a three-year starter, as a shooting guard, on the Warrior’s basketball team.

In the class room, Andrews has a 5.0 GPA. Once in college she hopes to major in Criminal Justice. She has a strong desire to one day become an FBI agent.

For all her athletic and academic accomplishments, Andrews has been chosen the September “NETC Female Student Athlete of the Month.”

This honor is bestowed through a partnership between the Northeastern Technical College and “The High School Sports Report” with the publication communicating with athletic directors at high schools in the counties of Dillon, Marlboro, and Chesterfield, where NETC serves the needs of high school students seeking to earn dual credits in various subjects that can be transferred to colleges after a student’s high school graduation.

To date, Andrews has taken advantage of the opportunity offered by “NETC” by completing work in the online courses of English 111, English 112 and History 131. She is currently taking History 111 through the “NETC”.

“Taking online courses through the “NETC” has helped prepare me for college and it has helped me improve my GPA that will help me earn academic scholarship funds once I go to college,” said Andrews. “Taking online courses has helped me improve my time management skills that I will need once I get to college. I like the fact that you take online courses at your own pace and this is really important to me being so involved in athletics, and other activities also.”

Andrews said he hopes to play third base in college. “I call third base the hot corner and you have to be ready for some well-hit balls coming at you,” she said. “Playing third base has helped me develop quick feet and quick hands. You also have to stay alert at all times.”

What interest Andrews about the possibility of becoming an FBI agent? “I would love being an investigator and being able to help track down criminals through my own instincts and training,” she said. “I have always wanted to work with the FBI for some reason.”

Two of her proud moments as a student athlete have come when she received an award for being on the “A” honor roll at Dillon Christian and the other was the fact she helped her softball team beat rival Williamsburg Academy four times during her career.

“High school students in our region of the state should look into taking online courses through the “NETC” because it will help them get better prepared for college,” said Andrews. “Taking online courses will also help improve your study habits as well.”

By David Shelton Senior Writer Charleston – First Baptist School has new leadership within its football program and athletic department for the coming 2025-26 school year. Kevin Mapp was hired as the new head football coach in the early spring and Jay Godbolt was hired as the new athletic director at the start of the summer. Mapp has extensive coaching experience on both the college and high school levels while also working in law enforcement. First Baptist is his first head coaching position. Mapp last coached defensive linemen at James Island Charter High and has had coaching stints at James Madison, Hampden-Sydney, Georgetown, Marshall, Missouri State and Coastal Carolina. Mapp graduated from James Madison and was a defensive lineman on the 2004 Division I-AAA (now FCS) national championship team. “Coaching has always been my passion,” Mapp said. “Ever since I was playing, I wanted to be a coach. I have always found a way to coach while working in law enforcement. I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunities to do both.” Mapp has been with the Charleston County police department for the last 10 years. He took some time away from coaching to start a family. “I felt like First Baptist was the perfect fit for me and my family,” Mapp says. “It’s a great opportunity at a great place. The kids here work hard and there is a lot of support from the administration. I’m excited to be the head football coach at First Baptist.” Mapp has hired coordinators on both sides of the ball. Will McCombs , once the head coach of the program, will call the offensive plays. Chris Hart comes over from James Island as the defensive coordinator. “Our numbers are improving and the kids are working hard,” Mapp said. “I feel like we can be a competitive team. It’s year one of the building process.” Godbolt has been a coach and athletic director in the Charleston area for nearly two decades. As the boys basketball coach at Charleston Collegiate, Godbolt coached three state championship teams. He also has been a coach and athletic director at Lowcountry Leadership Academy. Godbolt has more than 450 career victories as a head basketball coach. Current First Baptist basketball coach Antoine Saunders was Godbolt’s assistant at Charleston Collegiate.
