NETC Male Student Athlete of the Month:  Dillon Christian's Jackson Outlar

Dillon Dillon Christian three-sport athlete Jackson Outlar excels in football, basketball, and baseball at his school, and he should once again be named all-region in those sports during the 2024-2025 school year.

In the class room, Outlar has a 4.5 GPA and his goal is to major in Electrical Engineering once he attends college in the near future.

For all his athletic and academic accomplishments, Outlar has been chosen the September “NETC Male Student Athlete of the Month.”

This honor is bestowed through a partnership between the Northeastern Technical College and “The High School Sports Report” with the publication communicating with athletic directors at high schools in the counties of Dillon, Marlboro, and Chesterfield, where NETC serves the needs of high school students seeking to earn dual credits in various subjects that can be transferred to colleges after a student’s high school graduation.

After five games of the 2024 football season, Outlar has rushed for 551 yards on 51 carries with five rushing touchdowns. He also has caught 13 passes for 195 yards and has three reception touchdowns.

Last season, as a shooting guard in basketball, he averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds a game. In baseball, Outlar batted .450 with 22 RBI’s. As a pitcher he was 5-0 and pitched a perfect game during the season. Outlar played short stop when he was not pitching and he runs a 6.7 sixty.

This semester he is preparing himself for college by taking two online courses through the NETC, based in Cheraw.  He is taking English 101 and World History through the NETC online opportunity.

“For my English 101 assignment, I have been asked to write an essay about an important current event in my life,” said Outlar. “I am writing about my experience as a football player. The sport has taught me how to be more focused and disciplined. Football has also taught me to be a good teammate.”

Outlar says he enjoys being a running back because “somebody on the team has to be willing to get dirty and hit the hole hard.” His longest run this season resulted in a 68-yard score.

“Taking online courses through the NETC has made me focus on getting my deadline and most of my assignments are due by Sunday and that allows me time to pace myself around other activities I am involved in,” said Outlar. “I like working at my own pace. I would encourage all high school students in the region served by NETC to enroll in online courses of their choosing.”

Outlar is hearing from numerous colleges, mainly in the sport of baseball. Newberry College and Florence Darlington Tech have been very active in their recruiting interest. Outlar also said that he is very interested in the Engineering program offered at the University of South Carolina.

“Jackson is a hard-working student athlete,” said Dillon Christian head football coach and athletic director Donnell Stanley. “I think he would make an excellent slot receiver at the next level.”

By David Shelton Senior Writer Charleston – First Baptist School has new leadership within its football program and athletic department for the coming 2025-26 school year. Kevin Mapp was hired as the new head football coach in the early spring and Jay Godbolt was hired as the new athletic director at the start of the summer. Mapp has extensive coaching experience on both the college and high school levels while also working in law enforcement. First Baptist is his first head coaching position. Mapp last coached defensive linemen at James Island Charter High and has had coaching stints at James Madison, Hampden-Sydney, Georgetown, Marshall, Missouri State and Coastal Carolina. Mapp graduated from James Madison and was a defensive lineman on the 2004 Division I-AAA (now FCS) national championship team. “Coaching has always been my passion,” Mapp said. “Ever since I was playing, I wanted to be a coach. I have always found a way to coach while working in law enforcement. I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunities to do both.” Mapp has been with the Charleston County police department for the last 10 years. He took some time away from coaching to start a family. “I felt like First Baptist was the perfect fit for me and my family,” Mapp says. “It’s a great opportunity at a great place. The kids here work hard and there is a lot of support from the administration. I’m excited to be the head football coach at First Baptist.” Mapp has hired coordinators on both sides of the ball. Will McCombs , once the head coach of the program, will call the offensive plays. Chris Hart comes over from James Island as the defensive coordinator. “Our numbers are improving and the kids are working hard,” Mapp said. “I feel like we can be a competitive team. It’s year one of the building process.” Godbolt has been a coach and athletic director in the Charleston area for nearly two decades. As the boys basketball coach at Charleston Collegiate, Godbolt coached three state championship teams. He also has been a coach and athletic director at Lowcountry Leadership Academy. Godbolt has more than 450 career victories as a head basketball coach. Current First Baptist basketball coach Antoine Saunders was Godbolt’s assistant at Charleston Collegiate.
