Hilton Head Prep opens defense of SCISA AAA baseball title with 5-0 win over Orangeburg Prep

 Hilton Head Island – Defending SCISA AAA baseball state champion Hilton Head Prep opened defense of its crown with a 5-0 victory over Orangeburg Prep on Tuesday in its first game of the 5-team, double-elimination lower bracket of the state playoffs at the HHP field.

 

    The Dolphins, seeded second in the bracket, now own a 25-2 record. They will travel to Kingstree on Thursday to face No. 1 seed Williamsburg Academy beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

 Third-seeded OP, which lost to Hilton Head Prep in three games in the championship series, fell to 12-12. The Indians will play host to Patrick Henrry Academy in an elimination game on Wednesday beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

 Tyler Britschge tossed a 2-hit shutout for Hilton Head Prep. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.

 

 The score was 1-0 before HHP put up three runs in the bottom of the fifth to open up some room.

 

 Brody Hausher, Finnian Rooney, Sammy Middleton, JP Pirkey, Britschge and Brandon Hunter each had one hit for the Dolphins. Middleton hit a home run  and had two runs batted in. Hausher and Rooney both had a double. Hausher had an RBI, while Rooney scored twice and had an RBI.

 

 Hunter had a hit and an RBI, and Oliver Barrricks scored a run.

 

 Cholly Williams took the loss, working all six innings. He struck out nine while allowing six hits and walking four.

 

 Cam Jolley and Council Burroughs had the hits for the Indians.

 Spartanburg Christian 2

  

 Kingstree – Top seed Williamsburg Academy opened the AAA state playoffs with a 3-2 win over Spartanburg Christian Academy in the lower bracket on Tuesday at the WA field.

 

The Stallions, who are 18-2 on the season, will play host to defending state champion Hilton Head Prep on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. HHP, which is 25-2, defeated Orangeburg Prep 5-0 on Tuesday.

 

 SCA will meet the winner of Wednesday’s elimination game between OP and Patrick Henry Academy on Thursday.

 

 Hall Dukes got the win for Williamsburg. He allowed two unearned runs in 6 2/3 innings. Sammy Tomlinson came on with the bases loaded and two outs to record the final out for the save.

 

 Connor Morris had three hits, while Charlie Caulder had two.

 Bluffton Hilton Head Christian Academy began defense of its state title with a 10-0 victory over Laurence Manning Academy in the upper bracket of the AAAA state playoffs on Tuesday at the HHCA field.

 

 The No. 1 seed Eagles, who improved to 25-1, will play host to No. 2 seed Augusta Christian School on Thursday.

 

 The fifth-seeded Swampcats, now 9-12, will take on the winner of Wednesday’s game between Hammond and John Paul II on Thursday.

 

 Colt Spargur pitched a complete game for Hilton Head Christian. He scattered four hits while striking out seven and walking none.

 

 Will Mahl led the offense with a base hit and three RBI.

 

 Ben Lippen 12

 Pinewood Prep 10

  

 Summerville – No. 4 seed Ben Lippen School upset No. 1 seed Pinewood Prep 12-10 in the lower bracket of the AAAA playoffs on Tuesday at the PP field.

 

 The 13-9 Falcons will play at No. 2 seed Cardinal Newman on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.

 

 The Panthers, now 22-3, will be at home against the winner of Wednesday’s elimination game between Wilson Hall and First Baptist.

 

 Ty Fajardo led the BLS offense, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Will Krouse and Bert Muller both had a hit and two RBI.

 

 Tim Cole picked up the win in relief. He worked four innings, allowing four hits and one run.

 Andrew Jackson 7

 Laurens Academy 5

  

 Laurens Andrew Jackson Academy scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning on the way to a 7-5 victory over Laurens Academy on Tuesday at the LA field in Game 2 of their quarterfinal series in the AA playoffs.

 

The Warriors’ win forced a third and deciding game that is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the AJA field.

 

 The Crusaders, who fell to 11-6, led 4-2 after three innings before Andrew Jackson exploded for the 5 spot. Walker Terry had the big blow, a 2-run double.

 

 Terry also had a 2-run single to finish with two hits and four RBI. Landon Johnson also had two hits and scored a run.

 

 Eli Mathys scored twice and had an RBI, Evan Mathys had a hit, a run and an RBI, Hunter Tucker had a hit and a run, and Brad Hightower and Tanner Chassereau each scored a run.

 

 

 

Johnson picked up the victory, working 3 2/3 innings. Evan Mathys earned the save.

 

 Ethan Collins, Evan Asalone and Elias Littleton had Laurens’ hits. Riley Whittaker scored twice, while Collins and Wyatt Little each scored a run. George Sherer and Hodges Compton and Elijah Hornberger each had an RBI.

 Beaufort Lee Academy advanced to the semifinals of the AA state playoffs with a 24-0, 4-inning win over Beaufort Academy on Tuesday at the BA field to sweep their best-of-3 quarterfinal series.

 

 The Cavaliers, the defending state champions and a No. 1 seed, had Andrew Bowers go 4-for-4 with seven RBI. Myles Frye and Landon Olson hit home runs.

 

 Tyler Gilbert picked up the victory, pitching all four innings. He struck out five and walked none while allowing two hits.

 

 Lee will play the winner of the series between Thomas Heyward Academy and The King’s Academy in a best-of-3 semifinal series beginning on Monday, May 4. Lee will host the opening game.

 Blackville Wardlaw Academy defeated Jefferson Davis Academy 7-5 on Tuesday at the JDA field to force a third and deciding game in their Class A quarterfinal series.

 

The game will be played on Wednesday also at JDA, beginning at 6 p.m.

 

 Brady Edmunds had a 2-run single in the top of the sixth to break a 5-5 tie.

 

 Kale Henderson got the win for the Patriots. He worked 6 2/3 innings, striking out nine and walking four while allowing six hits. Three of the runs were earned.

 

 Judah McClendon came on to record the final out and get the save.

 

 Jon Rodgers led Wardlaw’s 10-hit attack with two hits, one a double, and three RBI. Henderson also had two hits.

 

 Reece Still led the 11-11 Raiders with two hits and three RBI. Dalton Nix also had two hits and stole three bases.

 Holly Hill Academy 10

 Bennettsville – Defending Class A state champion Holly Hill Academy stayed alive in its quest to repeat with a 10-1 victory over Marlboro Academy on Tuesday at the MA field to even the best-of-3 quarterfinal series.

 

 The deciding game will be played on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. at the HHA field. The Dragons won the opener 6-4 on Monday.

 

 Tyler Green pitched a complete game for the Raiders. He scattered four hits, walked just one and allowed no earned rruns.

 

Green also had a triple at the plate and was intentionally walked three times.

 

 Justin Gurley had two hits, Mason Green had a hit and two walks, and William Thompson had a hit.
