Christ Church looks for continued success in move to AAA

Greenville – The 2024 season was supposed to be somewhat of a down year for the Christ Church girls soccer team because it graduated 10 girls off their 2-time Class A Upper State championship squads. Well, the Lady Cavaliers proved they do'n't rebuild they just reload. Christ Church went 18-4 overall on the way to their third straight Upper State title.

Heading into the 2025 season, head coach Ashley Seeley  had the usual problem of replacing her seniors who accounted for one-third of the team's offensive output. However, the Lady Cavs were also moving up to AAA. That should not be an issue as they already play the top teams in the Upstate. They have gotten off to a 3-1 start while wiinning their first two region games. They are currently on a 3-game win streak as they head into the rest of the season.

They have four starting seniors, two of which were Class A All State selections and three are returning All-Region selections. Amelia Spinks  and Laura Morgan  were named to both teams as midfielder and defender, respectively. Spinks is the team's top returning scorer with 48 points. For her career, she has scored 43 goals and dished out 53 assists while Morgan, despite spending most of her time on the defensive side of the field has scored 13 career goals.

Luisa Marie Waecker  was named all region after scoring 29 points last season while Caroline Sutton  scored 27 points last season.

The junior class has some outstanding players returning in defenders Effie Koumoustiotis, Riley Glenn and Catherine Morton  and keeper Sophia Tzouvelekas.  Tzouvelekas had a 17-3-1 record last season with 12 shutouts to go with 58 saves and she only allowed 10 goals all year. She finished the year with a .0874 goals against average.

Koumoustiotis, Glenn and Morton are also big reasons as to why the Lady Cavs' defense is so stingy from getting the marks to clearing the ball and keeping things clear in front of Tzouvelekas. Morton had five goals last year and 13 points while Glenn scored eight points.

Sophomores midfielder Sophia Mahfood  and defender Grace Harrell are returning starters. Harrell was named to the Class A All-State team in 2024 as a defender and she was also named to the All-Region team.

Mahfood scored 16 points with five goals and six assists last season as a freshman from her midfield position.

“This is a special group of girls. They care about each other, and they care about making this team the best team it can be. They are willing to put in the work to reach our goals, both team goals and individual goals. #team #family,” said Coach Seeley
