Orangeburg Prep, Pee Dee, Hilton Head Prep, Spartanburg Christian advance in AAA girls

         Orangeburg – The Orangeburg Prep girls basketball team limited Greenwood Christian School  to just 14 points in a 47-14 victory in a quarterfinal game in the SCISA AAA state tournament on Monday at the OP gymnasium.

 

         The Lady Indians, who improved to 23-1 on the season, will face Hilton Head Prep in a semifinal game on Thursday at Sumter Couty Civic Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

         Mary Legare Delaney led Orangeburg Prep in scorig with 12 points along with grabbing seven rebounds. Hannah Lambert  had 11 points and six steals.

 

         Graysen Garrick and Prestan Schurlknight  both scored six points with Garrick adding five rebounds and five steals. Jane Walker Yonce  grabbed 14 rebounds and had six steals to go with three points.


GCS finished with a 13-7 record.

 

         Pee Dee 47

         First Presbyterian 27

         

         Orangeburg Pee Dee Academy  defeated First Presbyterian of Shannon Forest  47-27 in a quarterfinal game at the OP gymnasium.

 

         Pee Dee will take on Spartanburg Christian Academy in a semifinal game on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Sumter County Civic Center.

 

 Rebecca Hammond led the 21-4 Golden Eagles with 22 points. Claire Eskridge added 13, and Claire Owens had nine.

 

 Aubrey Glenn led 14-8 Shannon Forest with eight points. Peyton Thompson and Bryson McGrath  both had six, while Kaya Thompson  had four.


         Hilton Head Prep 43

Florece Christian 38

 

Orangeburg – Hilton Head Prep opened a 12-point halftime lead and held on for a 43-38 win over Florence Christian School at the OP gym.

 

FCS led 10-8 after the first quarter before 17-9 HHP outscore it 18-4 in the second stanza for a 26-14 halftime lead. Hilton Head Prep led 32-23 after three quarters.

 

 Courtney Campbell and Erin Cleary accounted for all but two of HHP’s points. Campbell had 23 and Cleary 18.

 

         Emerson Poston led the 15-10 Eagles with 20 points. Anna Kate Huggins  had seven and Leah Lambert added five.

 

         Hilton Head Prep will take on Orangeburg Prep in a semifinal game on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Sumter Count Civic Center.

 

         Spartanburg Christian 62

         Patrick Henry 48

 

         Orangeburg – Spartanburg Christian Academy advanced to the semifinals with a 62-48 victory over Patrick Henry Academy at the OP gymnasium.

 

         SCA, now 18-7, will meet Pee Dee Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Sumter County Civic Center.

 

         Parick Henry finished with a 14-8 record. Lillian Lucas led the Patriots with 22 points. Saquoia Sexton had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Emilee Bradley had 10 points. Laney Futch  had 14 rebounds and four blocked shots to go with four points.

 

  AAAA GIRLS QUARTERFINALS

 

Heathwood Hall 62

Porter-Gaud 22

 

Sumter Heathwood Hall jumped out to a 23-5 lead after one quarter and rolled to a 62-22 triumph over Porter-Gaud at Sumter Cunty Civic Center.

 

                  Lauren Jacobs led the 17-3 Highlanders with 21 points. Three others were in double figures – Dakota Jenkins with 12, Camillia Gore  with 11 and SaBreya Monsanto with 10.

 

         Queseya Rhooms added four.

 

 Grayson Hariri led the Cyclones, who finished 11-12, with 13. Perry Chambers  added seve.

 

Heathwood will take on First Baptist  in a semifinal game on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the civic center.

 

 Trinity Collegiate 53

Sumter  – Trinity Collegiate improved to 19-3 with a 53-42 win over Ben Lippen at Sumter County Civic Center.

 

 Makayla Leggette led the Titans with 24 points. Autumn Kind added 10, Saleese Kind  nine and Natalie Pitts  seven.

 

 Trinity Collegiate will meet Northwood Academy  in a semifinal game on Wednesday at Sumter Couty Civic Center.


Ben Lippen finished 16-11.

 

 AA GIRLS QUARTERINALS

 

Dorchester 51

Andrew Jackson 19

 

Columbia Dorchester Academy never allowed Andrew Jackson Academy to score more than eight points in a quarter on the way to a 51-19 victory at the Cardinal Newman gymnasium.

 

 Emery McClure led the 15-7 Raiders in scoring with 16 points. Rylee Weathers added 13, while Palmer Kizer  had eight, Alyssa Grooms  six and Lyla Owens four.

 

 McKinnley Beard led 12-12 AJA with eight points. Kinslie Carson added four.

 

 Dorchester will meet Laurens Academy in a semifinal game on Thursday at Wilson Hall’s Nash Student Center beginning at 6 p.m.

 

 Laurens Academy 49

Charleston Collegiate 43

 

Columbia Laurens Academy  held off Charleston Collegiate 49-43 in a tightly contested game at Cardinal Newman.

 

The 17-7 Crusaders led 10-7 after one quarter, 18-17 at halftime and 36-32 entering the final stanza.

 

 Sadie Bruyere led LA in scoring with 20 points. Braylee Burke  added 15, Mackenzie Runyons had six, and Abby Howard scored four.

 

 Vika Vuyiv led the Sun Devils with 17 points. Zoe Vanderwelle added 10 while Carolina Chmura  had eight and Kourtnee Hathaway  six.

 

Laurens will meet Dorchester Academy in a semifinal game on Thursday at Wilson Hall’s Nash Student Center beginning at 6 p.m.

Our Lady of the Rosary 28

 

Columbia Lee Academy jumped out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and went on to a 38-28 victory over Our Lady of the Rosary in a quarterfinal game at Cardinal Newman.

 

 Karagan Melton had 10 first-quarter points with six of them coming on a pair of 3-point baskets. Mazie Tomlinson had six in the quarter.

 

 Melton led the Cavaliers with 14 points. Tomlinson finished with nine and Jameson Collins had seven.

 

 Kate Strelow led Our Lady with 16 points, while Makenzie Commerford  had 10.

 

 Lee will take on Cross Schools in a semifinal game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Wilson Hall’s Nash Student Center.

 

 AAAA BOYS QUARTERFINALS

 

Porter-Gaud 64

Heathwood Hall 51

 

Sumter  – Porter-Gaud outscored Heathwood Hall 19-7 in the second quarter on the way to a 64-51 win at Sumter County Civic Center.

 

The Cyclones led 16-14 after one quarter before opening a 35-21 halftime advantage. They led 49-36 after three quarters.

 

 The Cyclones, who improved to 20-5, were led by John-Michael Jenkins  with 19 points and Banks Butler with 18. Kateaux Miller  added 12, Griffin Ferraro had seven and Griffin Domm had four.

 

 Kamauri Hunter led 17-10 Heathwood with 15 points. Tristen McCleary added 14, Nix Nichols 10 and Deuce Claxton six.

 

 Porter-Gaud will meet Hammond  at 8 p.m. on Wednesday in a semifinal game at Sumter County Civic Center.

 

 Hammond 60

Ben Lippen 41

 

Sumter – Hammond used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Ben Lippen 60-41 at Sumter County Civic Center.

 

 Mekhi Smith-Brown led the 19-5 Skyhawks with 19 points. Jaiden Haltiwanger  added 13, while Daylin Haltiwanger  had eight along with Jackson Ross. Loch Saunders  and Noah Goddard both had six.

 

 The Falcons’ Braysen Stockman led all scorers with 30 points. Jonathan Edgren  added six.

 

Hammond will meet Porter-Gaud in a semifinal game on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Sumter County Civic Center.

By David Shelton Senior Writer Charleston – First Baptist School has new leadership within its football program and athletic department for the coming 2025-26 school year. Kevin Mapp was hired as the new head football coach in the early spring and Jay Godbolt was hired as the new athletic director at the start of the summer. Mapp has extensive coaching experience on both the college and high school levels while also working in law enforcement. First Baptist is his first head coaching position. Mapp last coached defensive linemen at James Island Charter High and has had coaching stints at James Madison, Hampden-Sydney, Georgetown, Marshall, Missouri State and Coastal Carolina. Mapp graduated from James Madison and was a defensive lineman on the 2004 Division I-AAA (now FCS) national championship team. “Coaching has always been my passion,” Mapp said. “Ever since I was playing, I wanted to be a coach. I have always found a way to coach while working in law enforcement. I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunities to do both.” Mapp has been with the Charleston County police department for the last 10 years. He took some time away from coaching to start a family. “I felt like First Baptist was the perfect fit for me and my family,” Mapp says. “It’s a great opportunity at a great place. The kids here work hard and there is a lot of support from the administration. I’m excited to be the head football coach at First Baptist.” Mapp has hired coordinators on both sides of the ball. Will McCombs , once the head coach of the program, will call the offensive plays. Chris Hart comes over from James Island as the defensive coordinator. “Our numbers are improving and the kids are working hard,” Mapp said. “I feel like we can be a competitive team. It’s year one of the building process.” Godbolt has been a coach and athletic director in the Charleston area for nearly two decades. As the boys basketball coach at Charleston Collegiate, Godbolt coached three state championship teams. He also has been a coach and athletic director at Lowcountry Leadership Academy. Godbolt has more than 450 career victories as a head basketball coach. Current First Baptist basketball coach Antoine Saunders was Godbolt’s assistant at Charleston Collegiate.
