CENTRAL HAS BETWEEN 75-80 FOR SPRING FOOTBALL PRACTICE

The Central football team is coming off of a 10-3 season in which it reached the quarterfinals of the AA state playoffs in Jonathan Eason’s first season as the head coach at his alma mater. With eight starters back on offense and six on defense, there is plenty of excitement around the tradition-rich program.

`    “The buzz around the program is very positive right now,” Eason said. “ I can tell that the kids and the community are excited about Central football again.”

And just how can Eason gauge the excitement among the student-athletes?

“We’ve had to order about 20 new helmets because kids keep showing up,” he said. “I’m excited to see what these guys can do this year.”

The Eagles just completed spring practice and had between 75-80 players participating among the four rising classes. Eason believes much was accomplished during the sessions.

Our main goal during the spring was to get as much installed as possible, so we can rep it this summer,” he said. “We have a lot of key guys back, but we are going to have a few guys that have to step into some key positions, so it was good to get them a lot of reps.”

Central returns its quarterback in junior Dwayne Louallen Jr. and tis two leading rushers in senior Ashten Wilson and senior Aiden Short.

Louallen completed 116 of 204 passes for 1,417 yards and 10 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. Louallen rushed for 519 yards and six touchdowns on 105 carries.

Wilson was the leading runner with 858 yards, scoring six times on 123 carries. Short had 723 yards and seven touchdowns on 121 carries. Short also caught 13 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns while Wilson had 17 catches for 167 yards.

The Eagles did lose their two leading receivers in Tray Wilson and Jeffrey Bines. However, they do have senior Taveon Moore  returning. He caught 20 passes for 266 yards and two touchdowns.

Moore may be more important to the Eagles on the defensive side of the ball. The cornerback had seven interceptions

Senior defensive end Marques Allen led the team in tackles with 80. He had three quarterback sacks.
