Dillon Football Closes Out Another 10-Win Season Under Coach Roller

Dillon — The Dillon Wildcats (10-3) just completed head coach Kelvin Roller’s fourth season as the head coach, and the Wildcats fought through injuries to produce another 10-win season in this tradition rich football program.


“I am very proud of our team and the work they put in throughout the year,” said Coach Roller. “I am especially proud of Rahmond Hamilton who was thrust into the quarterback slot a few weeks before our first game.


“One of our team leaders was Jamarion Fling and his finishes his high school career as one of the best players to ever paly at Dillon,” said Coach Roller. “I am also thankful to have such an amazing coaching staff to help our players get better. There is an awful lot of work that goes into having a successful team, and season.


“We are actually starting back to work the first week of January for next season,” said Coach Roller. “Again, I want to thank each and everyone of our players for their work and commitment.”



Dillon had seven players named to the all-region team after the season.   Hamilton closed out his all-region prep career completing 126-of-221 passes for 1,796 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also rushed for 376 yards on 88 carries with four rushing touchdowns.


One of the top junior receivers in the state is Zay Robertson and the 200-meter sprint champion earned all-region and all-state honors after catching 63 passes for 848 yards and 9 touchdowns. Robertson also had several great plays on defense in situational play.

 

Fling was also named all-region and all-state after he rushed for 1,144 yards on 199 carries for 21 touchdowns. Fling added 197 yards in pass receptions on 14 catches and three touchdowns. Offensive lineman Kiele Pompey also earned all-region honors for his outstanding play this season.


On the “Nasty Cat” defensive side of the football linebacker Keryien Brown earned both all-region and all-state honors after he led the Nasty Cats in tackles with 158, including 9 TFL and three sacks. DB Dan Graves earned all-region with 51 tackles including a team leading six interceptions. Linebacker Daniel Capehart was also all-region after finishing second on the team with tackles with 120 ,including three TFL and three sacks.


Defensive end Ta’marien Rogers also had a good year on defense with 56 tackles, six sacks, 7 TFL, and six forced fumbles. Azavion DeBerry also played well on defense contributing 50 tackles, four sacks and two TFL. Tristian Blue had 49 tackles and three sacks while all-rookie performer Kelvion Manning had 49 tackles and five TFL. Zeph Campbell also had a good year on defense with 48 tackles and two interceptions. 


Ejan Green caught 18 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns. Senior place kicker Stephen Rojas closed out the season making 52-of-62 PAT’s and he had one field goal of 27 yards.


As a team the Dillon offense passed for 1,851 yards while rushing for 2,806 yards to total 4,657 yards of offense while limiting opponents to 2,870 yards.

By David Shelton Senior Writer Charleston – First Baptist School has new leadership within its football program and athletic department for the coming 2025-26 school year. Kevin Mapp was hired as the new head football coach in the early spring and Jay Godbolt was hired as the new athletic director at the start of the summer. Mapp has extensive coaching experience on both the college and high school levels while also working in law enforcement. First Baptist is his first head coaching position. Mapp last coached defensive linemen at James Island Charter High and has had coaching stints at James Madison, Hampden-Sydney, Georgetown, Marshall, Missouri State and Coastal Carolina. Mapp graduated from James Madison and was a defensive lineman on the 2004 Division I-AAA (now FCS) national championship team. “Coaching has always been my passion,” Mapp said. “Ever since I was playing, I wanted to be a coach. I have always found a way to coach while working in law enforcement. I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunities to do both.” Mapp has been with the Charleston County police department for the last 10 years. He took some time away from coaching to start a family. “I felt like First Baptist was the perfect fit for me and my family,” Mapp says. “It’s a great opportunity at a great place. The kids here work hard and there is a lot of support from the administration. I’m excited to be the head football coach at First Baptist.” Mapp has hired coordinators on both sides of the ball. Will McCombs , once the head coach of the program, will call the offensive plays. Chris Hart comes over from James Island as the defensive coordinator. “Our numbers are improving and the kids are working hard,” Mapp said. “I feel like we can be a competitive team. It’s year one of the building process.” Godbolt has been a coach and athletic director in the Charleston area for nearly two decades. As the boys basketball coach at Charleston Collegiate, Godbolt coached three state championship teams. He also has been a coach and athletic director at Lowcountry Leadership Academy. Godbolt has more than 450 career victories as a head basketball coach. Current First Baptist basketball coach Antoine Saunders was Godbolt’s assistant at Charleston Collegiate.
