Young Clarendon Hall volleyball team hoping to finish strong

After having 6 seniors last year, Lady Saints have no seniors and just one junior

Summerton – Talk about your turnovers.

There were six seniors on the Clarendon Hall volleyball team a season ago. This year there is not one senior on the 10=player roster and just one junior.

The Lady Saints head coach even changed things up as well. No longer is it Shannon Corbett. Instead, it is now Shannon Rogers due to her offseason marriage.

Despite having all of that experience returning last year from a 14-8 team that made the SCISA Class A state tournament inn 2023, Clarendon Hall only posted a 5-12 record. The Lady Saints were off to a 3-8 start this season.

Rogers admits there has been no rhyme or reason to what Clarendon Hall is doing in regards to its rotation.

“As for my starters, it depends on the game,” said Rogers, who is in her third season as head coach. “I have not had a consistent rotation yet this year due to injuries. It has been changing game by game. Each girl has earned at least one start this year.”

Three players return from last season’s roster. Allison Truett is the lone junior, while AJ Clark and Brynli Brewer are two of seven sophomores. The sophomore newcomers are Aubree Richardson, Ella Stukes, Emery Earnhardt, Kayln McCormic and Logan Osteen. The roster is rounded out by freshman Annie Carlye Martens and freshman Lily Grace Harris.

Clarendon Hall is part of the 4-team Region 1-AAA along with Calhoun Academy, Orangeburg Prepatory School and Thomas Sumter Academy

Clarendon Hall will be trying to earn a berth in the state tournament, which is set for October 24-25 in Myrtle Beach.

           CLARENON HALL FOOTBALL 0-7

Despite getting off to a promising start under first-year head coach Shane Wallace, the Clarendon Hall football team still finds itself mired in a long losing streak.

The Saints are 0-7 so far this season and now own an 18-game losing streak stretching over three seasons. They went 0-10 last season and lost their final game of the 2023 campaign. It happened to be in the first round of the Class A state playoffs as Clarendon Hall finished that campaign with an 8-3 record.

The Saints have played at the AA level since then and have obviously struggled. The opened the season with a 27-12 loss to Spartanburg Christian Academy and followed that up with a 29-27 loss to Patrick Henry Academy.

Then the offense shut down. Clarendon Hall suffered four consecutive shutout losses, 40-0 to Williamsburg Academy, 41-0 to Orangeburg Prep, 56-0 to Colleton Prep Academy and 34-0 to Andrew Jackson Academy. That streak came to an end on October 3 in a 55-8 loss to Thomas Sumter.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Saints, who are 0-3 in Region 2=AA. After playing undefeated Dorchester Academy in a non-region road tilt on October 10, they have a bye week. They close out the regular season with a home game against 5-2 Greenwood Christian School on October 24 before going on the road for a short trip to St. Matthews to face 6-1 Calhoun Academy on October 31.

By Gerald Doolittle February 23, 2026
By: Gerald Doolittle Batesburg-Leesville, S.C. – The W.W. King Academy Knights coached by Dennis Gibson completed their 2025-26 season with a very competitive season two seasons removed from a 23-6 season under then Coach Jonathan Davis . The 2025-26 season was a season of steady growth for the Knights. The 2024-25 season was the start of the rebuild after losing most of the 23-6 team to graduation and losing Coach Davis moving over to Greenwood Christian . Coach Gibson would come back into coaching the 2024-25 team and start the rebuild. His very young team consisting of mostly freshmen would finish a 0-16 season taking their hard defeats in stride while still developing their skills. The Knights returned in 2025-26 with the same group, plus several players who moved up from the middle school team, and focused on developing the players already in the program. That approach led to noticeable progress throughout the season and culminated in a Region Tournament runner-up finish to Newberry Academy . During the regular season, the Knights split their two games with Cambridge Academy , which went on to claim the Regular Season Region Championship. When the teams met again in the Region Tournament semi-finals, W.W. King delivered one of its strongest performances of the season, defeating Cambridge Academy 65-29 to advance to the title game against Newberry. Coach Gibson said the season reflected the players’ willingness to stay together and put in the hard work. “This season shows what can happen when players stay committed and keep working,” said Gibson. “Our guys come from families that value determination and dedication, and we have been fortunate to have strong leadership from senior captain Spencer McCormick. Our starting five spent a lot of time with individual workouts last spring and summer, and it made a difference. I am grateful for this group and proud of the way the entire team has represented our school.” While the Knights did not finish with a championship, their progress from last season to this one was clear. The team became more competitive, more confident, and more consistent over the course of the year to finish 9-10. For Wyman King Academy, the 2025-26 season stands as an example of how patience, continuity, and effort can lead to meaningful improvement, on the scoreboard, within a program, and in life. The Knight roster included seniors Wyatt Burbank and Spencer McCormick. Landell Anderson was the only junior . The several sophomores were Bubba Buzhardt, Whitaker Graham, Joseph Morse, Colby Buzhardt, Joey Bradley, Tucker Mayyou and Joshua Oswald. The five freshmen were Tucker McGinty, Drayton Wannamaker, Brady Goff, Jackson Hutto and Jaydan Deese.
