WEEK 9 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP
Wooden, Whitt lead Batesburg-Leesville to blowout victory
Lexington – Amadre Wooden and KD Whitt both scored three touchdowns to lead Batesburg-Leesville High School to a 63-0 football victory over American Leadership Academy on Friday at the ALA field.
Wooden ran for 242 yards on just 12 carries and caught a pass for 29 yards. Whitt had two receptions for 77 yards and two scores while running for 57 yards and another TD on three carries.
Quarterback Reese Boehnke threw three TD passes, the other one a 4-yarder to Tyler Kneece. Trey Smith threw a touchdown pass to Graham Pierce and Jayden Davis ran for the other score.
B-L improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in Region 2-AA. ALA fell to 2-6 and 0-2.
Dillon 20
Marlboro County 6
Bennettsville – Dillon outscored Marlboro County 14-0 in the second half to pick up a 20-6 victory on Friday at th3 MC field.
Jamaurious Robertson caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Khayel Sam Fong-Talia in the first quarter to give the 5-3 Wildcats the early lead. Marlboro County returned an interception for a score later in the quarter to tie the game.
The halftime score was 6-6. Dillon took the lead for good on a 7-yard run by Fong-Talia. Robertson put the game away with a 70-yard Pick 6 in the fourth quarter. Fong-Talia ran for the 2-point conversion.
Fong-Talia completed 14 of 22 passes for 197 yards and rushed for 47 yards on nine carries. Robertson had six catches for 104 yards.
Outside linebacker Daniel Capehart led the Dillon defense with eight tackles, two sacks and two TFLs. Middle linebacker Dayshawn Adams had 12 tackles.
Dillon improved to 2-1 in Region 5-AAA while Marlboro County dropped to 2-1. MC is 6-2 overall.
Timberland 21
Andrews 7
St. Stephen -- Timberland improved to 7-1 on the season with a 21-7 victory over Andrews on Friday at the THS field.
The Wolves, who improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 6-AA, put the game away on a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown by Robert Roberts with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Desmond Green had seven tackles, three TFLs, one sack, one fumble recovery and one pass defended. Carter Hawkins also had a pick and defended three passes.
Quarterback Malyk Goodman rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries while completing 5 of 15 passes for 85 yards. Hawkins had four catches for 85 yards.
Andrews is 3-5 and 2-1.
Manning 16
Atlantic Collegiate 14
Manning – Manning improved to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in Region 7-AA with a 16-14 victory over Atlantic Collegiate Academy on Friday at Ramsey Stadium.
Jontavious Canty ran for 40 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and also ran for a 2-point conversion to lead the Monarchs. He had MHS’ other TD as well, recovering a fumble and running it back 48 yards for a touchdown.
Lovon Stevenson ran for the other 2-point conversion. Isaiah Baxter had 60 yards on 12 carries.
Ethan Lowder led the defense with 10 tackles, 1 ½ TFLs and one sack.
ACA fell to 2-6 and 2-2.
Sunter 47
Blythewood 34
Blythewood – Cleveland Pinckney III ran for 262 yards and three touchdowns, while Franklin Richardson had 233 yards and four scores to lift Sumter to a 47-34 victory over Blythewood on Friday at the BHS field.
The Gamecocks, who improved to 7-1 overall and4-0 in Region 5-AAAAA, ran for 544 yards on 62 carries. Pinckney had 32 carries and caught a pass for 22 yards. Richardson had 19 carries while completing 7 of 11 passes for 39 yards.
Cameron Bradley led the defense with nine tackles, three TFLs and a sack. Tymarius Thompson-Durant had 12 tackles, Damarion Holmes had 10 tackles, Ra’Shawn Dickey had seven tackles and 1 ½ TFLs, and Josh Peeples had an interception and five tackles.
Blythewood fell to 3-6 and 1-4.
Clinton 56
Landrum 14
Clinton – Javen Cook rushed for 334 yards and five touchdowns to lift Clinton to a 56-14 victory over Landrum on Friday at Wilder Stadium.
Cook got all of the yardage on just 13 carries for the Red Devils,, who improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in Region 1-AA.
KJ Vance had 85 yards and a touchdown, and Angelo Cromer had 56 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Owen Glenn threw an 18-yard TD pass to Jaydon Glenn.
Quarterback Ty Foster led 3-5 and 0-2 Landrum by completing 16 of 31 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown and running for 59 yards on six carries. AJ Lindsey had the TD reception, finishing with four catches for 61 yards. Braydon Revis ha eight catches for 65 yards.
Trey Nesbitt returned a kickoff 91 yards for the other score.
Ninety Six 28
Saluda 27
Saluda -- Ninety Six rallied from a 21-13 halftime deficit to beat Saluda 28-27 on Friday at the SHS field.
Ninety Six was leading 28-21 when Saluda scored on a 12-yard run by Tristan Daniels with 3:25 remaining in the game. The Tigers decided to go for the 2-point conversion but the pass fell incomplete.
Daniels ran for 159 yards on 23 carries. Brayden Williams completed 8 of 12 passes for 127 yards and three TDs.
CJ Springs and Daniels both had three catches for 54 yards and a TD. Lane Ashley had a 6-yard touchdown catch.
Ninety Six had two players run for over 100 yards. Carver Davis had 128 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, while Joe Moore had 22 carries for 105 yards. Jacob Evans ran for the other two TDs.
Saluda fell to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in Region 2-AA while Ninety Six improved to 2-6 and 1-2.
Dutch Fork 49
Lexington 0
Irmo – Dutch Fork scored 21 points in the first quarter on the way to a 49-0 victory over Lexington on Friday at Dutch Fork Stadium.
The Silver Foxes improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 4-AAAAA. The Wildcats dropped to 3-5 and 1-2.
Jaxon Knotts completed 17 of 22 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown while running for 44 yards and two scores. Sheldon Shine ran for 82 yards and two TDs on five carries.
Stone Furrey had four catches for 75 yards and a TD. Chase Betts had three catches for 71 yards.
Raleigh Salters led DF with seven tackles. Juan Walker had three TFLs and a sack, and Jaden Wuerth had two TFLs and recovered a fumble.
Lexington’s Victor Smith had six tackles, 2 ½ TFLs and 1 ½ sacks.
South Florence 35
Wilson 7
Florence – South Florence improved to 7-1 with a 35-7 victory over crosstown rival Wilson on Friday at the WHS field.
Quarterback Messiah Jackson ran or 123 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries while completing 7 of 8 passes for 58 yards and a TD. Cameron James ran for 150 yards and a score on 16 carries while Gabe McLaughlin had 14 carries for 68 yards and a TD.
Linebacker Terry Gordon led the defense with six tackles and three TFLs, all of them sacks. Will Wilson II and Jewel Washington both had interceptions.
The Bruins are 4-0 in Region 5-AAAA. Wilson dropped to 5-4 and 2-3.
Loris 63
Georgetown 18
Georgetown – Loris scored 56 points in the first half on the way to a 63-18 victory over Georgetown on Friday at the GHS field.
Quarterback Moon Gerald completed 13 of 16 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 89 yards and another score on five carries.
Khalil Sherman had two catches for 72 yards and a score, Khalid Sherman had five catches for 69 yards and a TD, Grim Lewis had three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown, and Roderick Purcha had a 56-yard TD catch. Purcha also ran for two scores and Preston Hayes had a scoring run.
Trenton Parker ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries to lead Georgetown. Its other touchdown came on a 40-yard fumble return by Antonio Deas.
Loris improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in Region 5-AAA while Georgetown fell to 0-8 and 0-3.
Carolina Forest 49
North Myrtle Beach 7
North Myrtle Beach – North Myrtle Beach scored the game’s first seven points but Carolina Forest scored the final 49 for a 42-point victory on Friday at The Hank.
Jaryn Fox ran for 221 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries to lead CF, which improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 n Region 6-AAAAA. Quarterback Kamren Long ran for 98 yards on two carries, one an 82-yard touchdown, while completing 6 of 11 passes for 76 yards.
Jaiden Anderson ran for 61 yards and a score on six carries. The Panthers’ other TD was a 54-yard punt return by Brady McDowell. He also had three catches for 42 yards.
Jayden Alston had two interceptions to lead the Carolina Forest defense.
The Chiefs’ only score was a 16-yard T pass from Mason Walker to Jonathan Evans.
NMB dropped to 3-5 and 1-2.
Chester 40
Columbia 0
Columbia – Chester had two players run for over 100 yards and almost had three in a 40-0 road victory over Columbia on Friday.
Hudhaifah Taylor ran for 155 yards and a TD on nine carries, while De’Jmari Cockrell had 11 carries for 115 yards and a TD while also passing for a score. Caleb Feaster ran for 99 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
Terry Radford led the defense with 11 tackles, two TFLs and a sack. Darriyardn Baxley had 11 tackles and a TFL, and Varr Thompson had 10 tackles, two TFLs and a sack.
Chester improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in Region 3-AA. Columbia fell to 3-5 and 0-2.
Ridge View 29
West Florence 7
Columbia – Ridge View jumped out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 29-7 victory over West Florence on Friday at the RV field.
Spencer Bobian led the Blazers by rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Quarterback Bijon Virgo completed 10 of 20 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown and ran for 55 yards and another score on eight carries.
Khristian Jackson had four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown.
Quincy Grant had two interceptions, caused a fumble and recovered a fumble to lead the defense. Jordyn Best and Kingston Lucas both had two TFLs, while DaSean Rush led in tackles with 10. Jaiden Brown returned a fumble for a touchdown to go with five tackles and a TFL.
Markeith Thomas Jr. had nine tackles, a sack and a TFL. D’Juan Franklin had seven tackles, a sack and a TFL.
Ridge View improve to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in Region 5-AAAAA. West Florence dropped to 3-5 and 2-2.
Waccamaw 34
Aynor 0
Aynor – Waccamaw limited Aynor to 105 yards of total offense on the way to a 34-0 victory at the AHS field.
Middle linebacker Kevin Jackson had 17 total tackles, while cornerback Adrian Grate Jr. had 14 tackles and two tackles for loss. Outside linebacker Ben King had four tackles, one sack and two TFLs. Gregory Hall had 11 tackles, and defensive back Talib Turner had an interception and three tackles.
Quarterback Andre Grate led the offense. He completed 3 of 7 passes for 139 yards and two scores, ran for 54 yards and a TD on three carries and caught a pass for 26 yards,
Adrian Grate Jr. had nine carries for 90 yards, caught two passes for 81 yards and a touchdown and completed the 26-yard pass. Xavier Greggs caught a 58-yard TD pass, and Bryce Holloway and Jackson ran for scores.
Waccamaw improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in Region 5-AAA. Aynor fell to 2-6 and 0-3.
Hillcrest 49
Easley 20
Easley – Hillcrest led 28-6 at halftime and rolled to a 49-20 victory over Easley on Friday at the EHS field.
Josiah Coleman led Easley by completing 18 of 35 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 38 yards and a TD on nine carries.
Matthew Hillstock had nine catches for 111 yards and a TD. Owen Ross had three catches for 58 yards and a TD. Jeremiah Patton ran for 158 yards on 25 carries.
Trent Coker led the Easley defense with three TFLs and a sack. Kaiden Erby had an interception and four tackles.
Hillcrest improved to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in Region 1-AAAAA. Easley dropped to 3-5 and 1-4.
