Saluda baseball team wins region title for just second time in program history

Cedrianna Springs, Jahmeer Myers win state titles in AA state meet

Saluda -- For just the second time in program history, the Saluda High School baseball team won a region title.

 

    The Tigers claimed the Region 2-AA championship with an 8-2 record, finishing 17-10 overall.

 

    “As a whole this was a great season,” said Saluda head coach Travis Mills. “I’m super proud of our entire team for what they accomplished. Winning the region championship for just the second time in school history is a big deal, and I’m hoping it’s something we can build on in 2027.”

 

    The Tigers reached the championship round of the District 4 tournament in the state playoffs before falling to Landrum. Saluda lost the opening game to No. 4 seed Buford 7-6. It then beat Pelion 7-5 in an elimination game before topping Buford 8-2 in another elimination game.

 

    The Tigers lost to Landrum 8-7 in the championship round.

 

    Saluda had three All-Region performers in pitchers Cayden Rogers and Westan Rowe and catcher Sid Shaw. Rogers had a 7-1 win-loss record with a 2.65 earned run average, while Rowe was 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA. Shaw had a .403 batting average with an on-base percentage of .538 to go with 22 RBI.

 

CEDRIANNA SPRINGS, JAHMEER MYERS WIN TRACK TITLES

 

    Cedrianna Springs won the 400-meter hurdles for the Saluda girls and Jahmeer Myers won the javelin toss for the boys in the AA track and field state meet on May 15 at Richland Northeast High School in Columbia.

 

    Springs won the 400 hurdles in a time of 1 minute, 05.37 seconds. Myers won the javelin with a throw of 174 feet, 7.67 inches.

 

    The boys finished 13th with 22 points. Also scoring points for the Tigers were Darryl Hill in the 100-meter dash (fourth), Jakaile Stevens in the 110 hurdles (sixth) and the fifth-place 4x400-meter relay team.

 

    The girls finished 12th with 23 points. Others scoring for Saluda were Amaya Abney in the triple jump (fifth), Londyn Monroe in the 100 (sixth), the sixth-place 4x1 team, Taliyah Linton in the 400 dash (seventh) and Jabria Brunson in the 100 hurdles (eighth).

 

    Those who qualified for state but didn’t place among the girls were Amyhia Thomas in the 400 hurdles, the 4x400 relay team, the 4s8 relay team, Brunson in both the high jump and triple jump and McKinley Wilder in the discus.

 

    For the boys, Hill in both the 200 and long jump, Jamauri Reynolds and Mekhi Linton in the high jump and Myers in the shot put.
