SCISA softball, baseball state championship series set to begin on Monday
Five of eight series will have teams trying to defend titles
Sumter -- The SCISA state championship series for both softball and baseball in all four classifications are set to begin on Monday.
Each of the eight will be a best-of-3 series with each team getting a home game. If a third
game is needed to decide the state champion, it will be played at a neutral site. The softball if games are scheduled for Wednesday while the baseball third games are scheduled for Thursday.
Three baseball teams and two softball teams will be trying to defend their state titles. Both the baseball and softball teams from Pee Dee Academy will be in search of their third straight state titles. The softball team will take on the team it beat for the AAA crown last year, Orangeburg Prep, while the baseball team will do battle against Hilton Head Christian Academy.
The Clarendon Hall softball team will be looking for its third straight title, facing Colleton prep for the AA crown. Augusta Christian School will be after its second straight AAAA baseball title, while Richard Winn Academy is looking for its second consecutive Class A baseball championship. ACS will face Cardinal Newman, while RWA is facing Holly Hill Academy.
There will definitely be a new state champion in AAAA softball, Class A softball and AA baseball. Laurence Manning Academy will meet Hammond School for the AAAA softball title, while Jefferson Davis Academy will do battle with Cross Schools for the Class A softball title. The AA baseball series will pit Calhoun Academy against Dorchester Acaemy.
LMA, JDA and Calhoun were each state runners-up last year.
