EDWARDS SELECTED TO AA ALL-STATE BASEBALL TEAM

Blayne Edwards was selected to the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association’s AA All-State team.

Edwards led the Panthers, who went 18-9 on the season, in hitting with a .484 batting average. Hie had 11 doubles, three triples and five home runs among his 31 hits. He had 29 runs batted in, scored 33 runs and stole 15 bases.

Edwards was also selected as the Region 7-AA Player of the Year. He was joined on the All-Region team by Mason Sims, Torrance Wilson and David Driggers.

Sims batted .400 with five doubles, a triple, 18 RBI, 32 runs and 20 stolen bases. Wilson batted .390 with six doubles, two triples, 16 RBI, 28 runs and 12 stolen bases.

Driggers was LC’s top pitcher, posting a 7-2 win-loss record with a 0.56 earned run average. He had 53 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched. He also batted .300 with 18 RBI.

Lake City head coach Matt Apicella thought his squad had a good season.

“Going 18-9 overall, the season was a success, but we did not finish the job we set out to do,” Apicella said. “We are losing four quality seniors, but many underclassmen gained valuable experience. At times this season, we had four eighth-graders on the field. The future looks good as long as the kids stay focused and continue to work hard.”

           BEARD, MATTHEWS SOFTBALL ALL-REGION

Freshman Piper Beard and eighth-grader Cannlyn Matthews were selected to the All-Region 7 softball team.

Beard batted .326 and had an on-base/slugging percentage of 1.157. She had a homer and 13 RBI.

Matthews batted .400 with an OPS of 1.189. She had 11 RBI.

Lake City finished with a 7-11 record.
