Camden Camden High School had its end-of-the-year sports award banquet and the end of a career for a long time coach was the focal point at the end.

Paige Wilson, the highly successful volleyball head coach for the past 32 years who has been at Camden for 36 years, was honored in lieu of her retirement.

“We are not going to let her walk out of these doors of her last athletic banquet without honoring all of her coaching accomplishments,” said CHS athletic director and football head coach Brian Rimpf. “In Coach Wilson's 32 years as head coach, her teams have won 30 region championships. That's right. They won 30 of 32 region championships, an incredible feat, played in eight lower state championships, winning five of those. They played in five state championship games and were crowned state champions twice.

“She was also a forward thinker and started a youth volleyball program in Kershaw County to stay competitive with other areas in the state. That youth organization is still active today. I did not mention how many total wins her teams had during her tenure because in true Coach Wilson fashion, we don't know how many total wins she's accumulated because she won't tell us.”

JoJo Crim was honored as the Male Athlete of the Year, while Sullivan McKoy was named the Female Athlete of the Year.

Camden had a record 29 student-athletes earn the Scholar Athlete Award. It goes to student-athletes who own an unweighted 3.6 grade-point average and have lettered in a sport at least twice. They are Malayshia Addison, Laney Blanks, Tanner Bracey, Kaitlyn Clyburn, Cailin Cokley, Aryana Connell, Nicolette Connell, Rian Edwards, Alyssa Faulkenberry, Logan Freeman, Slade Funderburk, Ellen Green, Zecheriah Haney, Kaelem Johnson, Davis Kinard, Anna Martin, Osmin Manueles, Sullivan McKoy, Jazira Meagley, Caleb Newman, Blake O’Bradovich, Hope O’Bradovich, Preston Rozelle, Sonny Reynolds, Wyatt Sandberg, Peyton Sanders, Wyatt Smith, Madison Stokes, Josey Sweat, Leigh Thomas and Wyatt Thompson.
