Athletic director Glen Rector happy with "stability and consistency" of staff

Sumter Wilson Hall athletic director Glen Rector lives the life of Riley when it comes to putting together a coaching staff. He has very little work to do.

Wilson Hall will be making no changes to its varsity head coaching staff after only having two changes last season.

“Stability and consistency is what I think of concerning our coaching staff,” Rector sadi. “Many of our primary coaches have been on our staff 10 years plus and that gives our program stability. Often coaches are looking for the next best job, better athletes or to move up the coaching ladder. Our coaches are committed to building from our middle school and junior varsity programs to complement our varsity programs. Our goal is to be the best we can be with the people, athletes, facilities and financial resources available.”

Rector is the epitome of stability and consistency. Rector will be starting his 21st season as the girls basketball head coach at Wilson Hall. Rector will also be the boys golf coach for the second straight season.

Adam Jarecki is wet behind the ears compared to Rector when it comes to tenure at Wilson Hall. Jarecki is set for his 11th season as the football head coach. He led the Barons to an 11-2 record last season and to a spot in the SCISA AAA state championship game for the second consecutive season. Jarecki will return as the baseball head coach for the second year.

Jarecki is one of two assistant athletic directors along with Rip Ripley. Ripley has been the head coach for both the boys and girls track and field teams and the volleyball team for several years. He will be in charge of the boys basketball team for the fourth season. He led the girls track team to the Division I state title this past season.

Teresa Alexander will return to coach the softball program, which got back in the AAAA championship series after missing out on it the year before. Brent Hiott returns as the head coach of the ultra-successful shooting sports teams, Curtis Helms returns as the head coach of the bowling teams and Jason Bartlett is back as the boys soccer head coach.

The husband-and-wife team of Katherine Schwartz and Reid Schwartz will once again coach the boys and girls cross country teams while Ryan Dutcher will coach the girls golf team, Jeanna Mahr the boys and girls swim teams, Emily Anne Beasley the equestrian team and Frances James the cheerleading team.

The tennis programs will once again Julia Sorrells coaching the girls team and Luke Whiteside the boys. They were Rector’s two new hires last year.
