Marlboro Academy’s Colt Stillwell Named “NETC” Male Student Athlete of the Month
Marlboro Academy senior Colt Stillwell earned All Region and All State honors playing Soccer and, in the classroom, he carries a 5.23 GPA.
Bennettsville — Colt Stillwell is a senior and three-sport athlete at Marlboro Academy, where his athletics cover most of the school year. Even with these demands, he’s been taking Dual Enrollment classes with NETC since starting his junior year. He’s completed English 101/102 and Spanish 101/102 and currently taking two online courses American Government and Public Speaking via NETC. He plans to continue taking online courses next semester to help lighten his course load once in college.
Stillwell plays Soccer which he started playing his junior year, Basketball since the 10th grade, and ran Cross Country starting in the 6th grade. Answering the question about which is his favorite, he said, “it’s both basketball and soccer.” He continued that nearly continuous sports participation builds toughness. Each sports build for the other he states, “Cross Country trains the mind and body to increase will power which is key in basketball and soccer with all the running and the mind wants to stop long before the body tires out.”
He’s earned All Region and All State honors playing Soccer and, in the classroom, he carries a 5.23 GPA. He says that he does not plan to pursue next level sports at college but won’t rule out playing intramural or club sports. He plans to major in Mechanical Engineering and is looking to attend one of several schools. Currently, the University of South Carolina, NC State, VA Tech, and Georgia make up his short list.
For all his athletic and academic accomplishments, Stillwell has been chosen the “NETC” Male Student Athlete of the Month.”
This honor is bestowed through a partnership between the Northeastern Technical College and “The High School Sports Report” with the publication communicating with athletic directors at high schools in the counties of Dillon, Marlboro, and Chesterfield, where NETC serves the needs of high school students seeking to earn dual credits in various subjects that can be transferred to colleges after a student’s high school graduation.
The NETC is currently offering over 44 online dual credit courses for the 2026-27 school year to students in the three counties they serve.
“The benefit of the dual enrollment opportunity is clear to Stillwell. He says, “it’s helped with my time management and gives a clearer view of what college classes are like. Plus, this requires daily planning and I’m getting to understand what professors expect and how classes work together.” He continues by stating, he “enjoys the NETC environment and the online environment in very convenient with his sports commitments plus he’s earning college credits too.”
When asked about two academic schedules plus sports, Stillwell said, “It’s all about planning each day to slot time for requirements when working on that topic fits best.” He continued, “the value of getting enough sleep is never overrated.”
When asked about a favorite memory from his play either on the pitch or the court, Stillwell says, “the most fun game was not a win, but in the 2026 Basketball semifinals, we were down by 20 points at halftime and battled back in the second half but ran out of time just down by 3 points. Even though a loss, we played hard and as a team in that game. It’s the camaraderie with my teammates in practice, on the bus rides, and teamwork in games; those are the lasting memories with my friends.”
