Fifth Annual FTC Football Jamboree still set for Friday at Manning High's Ramsey Stadium
It is one of many jamborees still going on while a few have been canceled because of expected high heat indexes
Sumter – Friday night won’t be nearly as busy with high school football jamborees throughout South Carolina because of the dangerous heat indexes that have gripped the state over the last few days,
With temperatures predicted to be in the uppers 90s and heat indexes expected to be between 105 and 109, many jamborees have been canceled. Some of the jamborees that have been canceled include the Dave Spurlock Charleston County Jamboree at North Charleston Regional Stadium, the Dorchester County Showdown at Ashley Ridge High and the Coach Steve Taneyhill Kickoff Classic in Chesterfield.
However, two that will go on but start at a later time are the Fifth Annual FTC Jamboree at Manning High School’s Ramsey Stadium and the Mickey Moss Memorial Jamboree at Kingstree High.
The FTC Jamboree was originally scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start but has moved back to 6:30. There will be six scrimmages, each with two 15-minute quarters featuring a running clock.
The jamboree will kick off with Lakewood taking on Cross at 6:30 followed by Scott’s Branch against Lee Central at 7:05. Crestwood will meet Richland Northeast at 7:40, East Clarendon will go up against Williamsburg Academy at 8:15, Laurence Manning Academy will do battle with Carvers Bay at 8:50, and Manning will take on Sumter beginning at 9:25,
The Mickey Moss Jamboree is normally played at Lake City High, but its stadium is currently undergoing renovations. It is set to start at 7 p.m. and will have three scrimmages. The first will pit Marion against Hannah-Pamplico with the second seeing Lake City take on Hemingway. The finale will pit Kingstree against Georgetown.
The Moncks Corner Lions Club Jamboree at Berkeley has been moved back to a 7 p.m. start. Andrews will take on Stratford to kick things off followed by Philip Simmons against Colleton County, Goose Creek against Timberland and Berkeley against South Florence.
The 50th Camden Shrine Club Jamboree will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Camden High’s Zemp Stadium. The opening matchup will have North Central taking on Calhoun County, followed by Lugoff-Elgin meeting Orangeburg-Wilkinson and Camden going up against Blythewood.
Richland One’s Sportsarama at Memorial Stadium in Columbia will be held on Friday and Saturday beginning at 8 p.m. each night. Keenan will meet C.A. Johnson and Dreher will take on Eau Claire on Friday, while Whitmire and Columbia High and Lower Richland and A.C. Flora will do battle on Saturday.
The final portion of the McDonald’s Kickoff Classic series will be played at two sites on Friday. At Byrnes’ Nixon Field, Clinton will take on Riverside beginning at 6 p.m. followed by Hillcrest versus Independence, North Carolina, at 7, Woodruff against Laurens at 8, and Byrnes meeting West Charlotte (N.C.) at 9. At Chapman High, Landrum will meet Chase (N.C.) at 6 p.m. followed by Westside against Rabun Gap, Georgia, at 7, Chapman against Polk County (N.C.) at 8, and Greer going up against Shelby (N.C.) at 9.
The District 2 Jamboree at Boiling Springs is set to start at 7 p.m. with Chesnee taking on Southside. That will be followed by Dorman facing Woodmont and Boiling Springs going against J.L. Mann.
