North Augusta – Even though her team hasn’t quite played up to her expectations, Fox Creek High School head coach Kaitlyn Eidson believes some good things could await her squad in the AA state playoffs.
“I think this year we can make it to the third round of the playoffs, as we are a different team this season that has grown and added new talent to our team,” said Eidson, who is in her third season as the Predators’ head coach. “As long as the girls show up to play with a “purpose” we will be set for the playoffs.
Fox Creek returned five starters from a team that went 17-14-2 and 8-0 in winning the Region 3 championship, The Predators were 11-18-1 overall, but 7-1 in region play, good for a tie for first place with Pelion..
There is not a senior on the roster. The returning starters are junior Addyson Snellings, junior setter Madison Morlan, sophomore outside hitter Addison Coleman, junior outside hitter Reagan Peters and junior libero Kaylee Morlan.
The newcomers to the starting lineup are junior defensive specialist Autumn Engelburg and sophomore middle hitter Kayce Ashley.
The other members of the 10-player roster are junior Alyssa Green, junior Aubrey Waters and sophomore Abigail Leopard.
Eidson said she has a roster filled with talented players who bring different aspects of talent to the team.,
“Each player brings a unique touch to the team this year,” Eidson said. “I believe our strengths are our serves, serve receive and hits.
“We are struggling right now with changing up the pace depending on the team and being consistent when hitting.”
The Predators’ lone region loss came at the hands of Pelion by a 3-2 count, a team they had beaten 3-0 in their region opener.
Snellings was leading the Predators in kills with 169 followed by Peters with 72, Coleman with 71 and Ashley with 70. Fox Creek is strong with its serves thanks to Madison Morlan, Snellings and Waters. Morland has 60 aces, Snellings has 58 and Waters 41.
Snellings is also leading the way in blocks with 21 while Ashley has 20. Kaylee Morlan is the leader in digs with 201. Coleman has 122 digs, Madison Morlan 79 and Engelburg 77.
Marlee Morland also leads the Predators in assists with 260, while Waters had 142. Kaylee Morlan was the leader in serves received with 377. Coleman was second with 251 while Engelburg was third with 174.
