Florence – The Florence Christian School volleyball team reached the SCISA AAA state championship match last season. The Eagles finished with a 31-2-1 record, falling to 7-time defending state champion Spartanburg Christian Academy in the title match.
Florence Christian returned only three starters from that team, but the expectations from that special season are still there. No one has bigger expectations than the Eagles themselves.
“We were state runner up last season so we have big shoes to fill,” said FCS head coach Denise Carter.
Florence Christian is off to a 19-5-1 overall start with a 5-1 mark in AAA matches. Carter is happy with her team’s performance to date.
"I am quite pleased with what FCS has done so far this season,” said Carter, who is in her seventh season at Florence Christian. “Our season is going well. We have three returning starters from last season, so we are still striving for perfection every game. We have a great group of girls and hopefully we can get the chemistry going and peak when it counts”
The starters are senior middle hitter/middle blocker/outside hitter Bradley Brown, senior libero Sofie Purvis, sophomore OH/MH/MB Jada Porter, sophomore defensive specialist Daisy Carter, sophomore setter Jenna Prevatte, sophomore OH Anna Kate Huggins, sophomore MH/MB Susanna Lee and eighth-grade MB/MH Lareen Rishmawi
Bradley was leading the Eagles with 211 kills and 51 blocks. Purvis was leading the team with 29 aces and 198 digs. Porter had 73 kills, 19 blocks and 82 digs and Prevatte had 185 assists.
The remainder of the roster consists of senior setter Victoria Smith, sophomore defensive specialists Demi Greene and Anna Kate Bazen and sophomore OH Lily Altman
FCS FOOTBALL OVERCOMES 0-3 START

The Eagles, who played for the AAA state title last season, close out the season with AAA games against Wilson Hall, First Baptist and Pee Dee.
Offensively, FCS relies mainly on senior running back Juels Huntley. He has rushed for 995 yards and 13 touchdowns on 131 carries. He also has a team high 10 catches for 85 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Gavin Holt has only thrown the football 33 times. He’s completed 19 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior middle linebacker Jameson Berry is the leader of the defense. He has 51 tackles and six tackles for loss, both team highs. Berry, Austin Johnson and Huntley have the Eagles’ threeo interceptions
