Will Lampkin joins Kingstree football staff as offensive coordinator
Brandon Cantrell returns for second season as Blazers football head coach
Kingstree – Brandon Cantrell got his start as a high school football coach thanks to Will Lampkin. Cantrell’s first job was as an assistant on Lampkin’s Kingstree High School staff back in the mid 2000s.
Fast forward a couple of decades and Cantrell is preparing for his second year as head coach at Kingstree, his first head coaching gig. This year Lampkin will be part of Cantrell’s staff.
Lampkin will be the Blazers’ offensive coordinator and quarterback coach as Kingstree will try to improve upon its 4-7 record from a year ago.
“Adding Will Lampkin to the staff will be good for us offensively,” Cantrell said. “He will be in charge of the offense, but I’ll be putting my thoughts on things in as well.
“We have James Price back as our defensive coordinator. We’re going to make some chages in what we do defensively. I know he’ll do a great job. I know I can trust both of them.”
All of the other assistants are returning coaches. Diallo Cooper will coach the running backs, Antawn Brunson will be in charge of the wide receivers, and Richard Montgomery will coach the line.
Price will have Brunson coaching defensive backs, Cooper in charge of outside linebackers, Jason Myers is in charge of the middle linebackers and Sharvis Graham will coach up the line.
Price, who is also Kingstree’s athletic director, likes the football coaching staff that has been assembled.
“I am excited for th 2026-27 football season to begin,” Price said. “We now have a full staff at every posi8tion with plenty of knowledge and experience to share with our Blazer football team.
“They are a committed and hard-working staff that are here not only to build strong football players, but most importantly, they are here to build young men into productive students and citizens.”
Kingstree had several 7-on-7 scrimmages over the summer as well as aan 11-on-11 practice with Georgetown, It will take part in a scrimmage at Manning that also includes Georgetown and Timberland. The Blazers will be playing host to the Lake City Jamboree on August 14 as work on the Lake City High field will not be completed in enough time.
Kingstree will open its season on Thursday, August 20, when it travels to Marion.
As far as the staff of head coaches, there will only be one change. Samantha Segres will be the volleyball head coach.
Price will once again be the girls head coach. The Blazers went 19-5 this past season, finishing second in Region 7-AA and reaching the second round of the state playoffs.
Shawnte’ Evans returns for his third year in charge of boys basketball. Kingstree went 5-19 last season.
Ameisha Owens, who coached volleyball last season, will once again coach softball. Leonard Montgomery will be the baseball coach again.
Myers will be the boys track and field head coach, while Christi English will coach the girls team.
“I am excited for the 2026-27 sports season at Kingstree High,” Price said. “The athletic program is trending in the right direction with a full commitment to improving in all of the sports that we offer. The coaches are working extremely hard to prepare the kids, and I am pleased with what I have seen all summer.”
