Batesburg-Leesville remains unbeaten with 21-7 win over Lower Richland

        Batesburg-Leesville – The Batesburg-Leesville High School football tam improved to 3-0 on the season with a 21-7 victory over Lower Richland on Friday at the B-L field,

 

         Amadre Wooden rushed for 159 yards on 24 carries and caught a pass for six yards. KD Whitt returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown and also had a 16-yard scoring run. B-L’s other touchdown came when Clarence Springs recovered a fumble in the end zone.

 

         Amari Fisher rushed for 78 yards on 13 caries to lead LR, which fell to 2-2. Jaylin Simmons rushed for 40 yards and a TD on 14 carries.

 

          Clinton 49

         Chapman 27

 

         Inman Clinton scored 28 points in the second quarter to open a 35-7 halftime lead on the way to a 49-27 victory over Chapman on Thursday at the Chapman field.

 

         Javen Cook led the Red Devils, who improved to 3-1, with 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Kason Copeland ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries along with a 14-yard reception.

 

         Chris Boyd caught a 20-yard touchdown pass and returned a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown.

 

         Chapman, which fell to 1-3, was led by Bryson Cothran, who completed 13 of 23 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. Also, Taylor Rogers was 5-for-5 for 121 yards and two touchdowns and had three catches for 27 yards and a score.

 

         Hank Tolleson caught five passes for 92 yards and a touchdown, Blake Williams had four catches for 56 yards and a TD.

 

         Dillon 48

         Marion 7

 

         Dillon -- Dillon led 34-0 at halftime on the way to a 48-7 victory over Marion on Thursday at the DHS field.

 

         Noah Singletary led the 3-0 Wildcats by rushing for 121 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Jamarion Fling ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Quarterback Rahmond Hamilton completed 6 of 12 passes for 112 yards and two TDs while running for 47 yards on five carries. EJan Green had four catches for 103 yards and a TD.

 

         Keryien Brown had 10 tackles to lead the defense.

 

         Gaffney 31

         Freedom 0

 

         Gaffney – After a scoreless first quarter, Gaffney rolled to a 31-0 victory over Freedom High of North Carolina on Friday at The Reservation.

 

         The Indians had 417 yards of total offense, 212 on the ground and 205 through the air. Chas Smith led the GHS offense, rushing for 106 yards and a TD on 10 carries while catching three passes for 36 yards and another TD.

 

         Quarterback Jayvon Gilmore completed 16 of 26 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns. Jamarcus Smith caught eight passes for 113 yards and a TD, and Shane Davidson had a 10-yard TD catch.

 

         Zyon Ratchford led the defense with seven tackles and two tackles for loss, while Josh Corry had five tackle and two TFLs. Sherman Tate also had seven tackles.

 

         

         Manning 35

Ridgeland 0

 

Manning Manning improved to 2-1 with a 35-0 victory over Ridgeland on Friday at Ramsey Stadium.

 

The Monarchs ran for 243 yards. Jaylnn Coard had 100 yards on eight carries while running for a score and a 2-point conversion. Jontavious Canty rushed for 67 yards and two scores on five carries.

 

Lamar Hilton led the defense with seven tackles and a fumble recovery while returning a blocked punt 12 yards for a touchdown.

 

Sumter 35

Crestwood 14

 

Dalzell Sumter raced out to a 35-7 halftime lead and went on to a 35-14 victory over Crestwood on Friday at Donald L. Crolley Memorial Stadium.

 

John Peeples rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries to lead the 4-0 Gamecocks. Kam Fortune rushed for 66 yards and another score on nine carries.

 

Quarterback Franklin Richardson completed 4 of 4 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Bentley had three of the catches for 137 yards and the two TDs.

 

Anthony Addison and Tymaries Durant both had nine tackles to lead the defense. Addison had three tackles for loss and a sack, while Durant had a sack, a TFL and a fumble recovery.

 

Jeremiah Burson had eight tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery to with 2 ½ TFLs. Nayshaun Brown had three TFLs among his six tackles.

 

South Aiken 31

Barnwell 28

 

Barnwell Barnwell suffered its first loss in four games, falling to South Aiken 31-28 on Friday at the BHS field.

 

Nehemiah Brown rushed for 102 yards on 18 carries to lead Barnwell. Cameron Austin had nine carries fo4 37 yards and three TDs while completing 5 of 8 passes for 42 yards. Jaquan Peeples had 69 yards and a TD on seven carries and caught two passes for 15 yards.

 

Loris 41

North Myrtle Beach 14

 

North Myrtle Beach Loris remained undefeated on the season with a 41-14 victory over North Myrtle Beach on Friday at The Hank.

 

The Lions improved to 4-0 while NMB dropped to 0-4.

 

Land Cloninger completed 20 of 35 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown while also running for a score to lead NMB. Kaden Gore caught eight passes for 119 yards and the TD.


Waccamaw 41

Johnsonville 0

 

         Pawleys Island Waccamaw improved to 2-1 with a 41-0 victory over Johnsonville on Friday at the WHS field.

 

         Zaireon Skinner rushed for 121 yards on eight carries to lead the Warriors. Andre Grate completed 4 of 5 passes for 99 yards and a TD while also rushing for two scores. Adrian Grate Jr. rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns on six carries, and Colin Behney had two catches for 73 yards and a score.

 

         On defense, Adrian Grate Jr. had 11 tackles, three of them for loss.

 

         Saluda 16

         Chester 12

 

         Saluda Saluda scored 13 points in the fourth quarter to beat Chester 16-12 on Friday at the SHS field.

 

         Chester led 6-3 entering the fourth quarter when SHS quarterback Brayden Williams scored on a 2-yard run. John Pinto added the extra point to make it 10-6. The Cyclones regaind the lead at 12-10 on a 5-yard run by Cam Wray.

 

         Williams threw a 54-yard scoring pass to Tristan Daniels with 1:33 left in the game for the winning score.

 

         Williams completed 6 of 12 passes for 148 yards and rushed for 27 yards on 11 carries. Pinto had a 34-yard field goal earlier in the game.

 

         JT Lott led the Saluda defense with 15 tackles to go with two TFLs while Jordan Hagler had 11 tackles and one TFL. Amir Johnson had two TFLs and two sacks among his five tackles while also forcing two fumbles.

 

         Jalen Feaster rushed for 78 yards on 17 carries and Hudhaifah Taylor had 77 yards on 12 carries for Chester. Jackson Wilburn completed 8 of 13 passes for 64 yard with an 11-yard scoring strike to Donnavan Wilmore.

 

         Northwestern 28

         South Pointe 14

 

         Rock Hill Northwestern got out to a 21-0 halftime lead and held on for a 28-14 victory over South Pointe on Friday at District 3 Stadium.

 

         South Pointe scored both of its touchdowns in the third quarter to make it a 1-score game. However, the Trojans, who improved to 4-0, scored its final points in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

 

         Quarterback Finley Polk completed 15 of 21 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns to lead Northwestern. Jayden Nichols had four catches for 70 yards and a TD, and Kameron Vance had three catches for 28 yards and the other TD. Daniel Caldwell had five catches for 35 yards.

 

         Zymier Gordon-Miles had 15 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown. Matthew Fish connected on field of 28 and 36 yards, respectively.

 

         Mason Pickett-Hicks led South Pointe by rushing for 102 yards and a score on 17 carries and catching six passes for 42 yards. Quarterback Cam McMillon completed 16 of 26 passes for 202 yards and a score. Caymen Finch had three catches for 49 yards and the TD, while Dailan Duncan had six catches for 48 yards.

 

         Kyle Robinson had a huge defensive game for the Trojans. He had 11 tackles, four of them for a loss, and two quarterback sacks. Andre Pickett had four tackles, two TFLs and a sack.

 

         Dutch Fork 35

         Gray Collegiate 0

 

         Irmo Dutch Fork improved to 3-0 with a 35-0 victory over Gray Collegiate Academy on Friday at Dutch Fork Stadium.

 

         Maurice Anderson rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries to lead the Silver Foxes. Isaac Shine rushed for 60 yards and a TD on eight carries.

 

         Quarterback Ethan Offing completed 16 of 26 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns while running for 20 yards and a score on three carries.

 

         Boykin Bickley had six catches for 113 yards and a TD, whil Shine had two catches for 37 yards and a TD.

 

         Julian Walker had two sacks and two tackles for loss for DFHS while Daniel Williams and Michael Steed both had two TFLs and six tackles.

 

         
       
 Chapin 42

          Newberry 37


             Chapin -- Chapin remained undefeated with a 42-37 victory over Newberry on Friday at the CHS field.

         

         Brady Albro led the Eagles, who are 4-0, by completing 18 of 25 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns. Khalen Bostick had six catches for 142 yars and two scores, while Stone Furrey had six catches for 80 yards. Coltone Martin had six catches for 39 yards and a TD while rushing for 68 yards and another score on 21 carries. Jesup Boulware caught a 47-yard TD pass, and Cooper Canady had a 27-yard scoring catch.

         

         T.L. Hanna 36

         Wren 29


         Piedmont -- T.L. Hanna improved to 2-1 while handing Wren its first loss in a 36-29 victory on Thursday at the WHS field.


         Brandon Cunningham had 200 all-purpose yards and one touchdown, to lead the Yellow Jackets. KD Patterson, Emari Nance, Jameerion Oliver and Daylan Williams also scored touchdowns.


         Noah Miller had nine tackles, one sack and a tackle for loss for Hanna.


         Wren fell to 3-1.

 

Timberland 28

Kingstree 6

 

Kingstree -- Timberland avenged a playoff loss to Kingstree last season with a 28-6 victory over the Blazers on Thursday at the KHS field.

 

         Josh Ham led the Wolves defense with 10 tackles, five tackles for loss and a quarterback sack. Ethan Milligan had eight tackles and two TFLs.

 

         Aiden Berrios rusbed for 72 gards on 12 carries and was 4-fr-4 on extra points for Timberland, which improved to 3-1. Montez Addison rushed for 49 yards and two TDs on 11 carries, and Malyk Goodman threw for 93 yards and a touchdown.

 

BJ Washington had 13 tackles for Kingstree, which fell to 0-4..

 

Wilson Hall 42

Laurence Manning 15

 

Manning Wilson Hall improved to 4-0 with a 42-15 victory over Laurence Manning Academy on Friday at Billy Chitwood Field.

 

The Barons, who led 35-0 at halftime, were led by Harris Naylor, who rushed for 99 yars on seven carries. Milling Galloway had seven carries for 70 yards and two scores, and Ben McLaurin had 10 carries for 50 yards and a TD and caught a 30-yard scoring pass. McLaurin also had an interception on defense.

 

Shawn Michael Matthews returned an interception for a touchdown, while Owen Meyers blocked a punt that Jackson Bonser returned for a touchdown.

 

Camden 43

Ridge View 26

 

Camden Camden improved to 3-1 with a 43-26 victory over Ridge View on Friday at Zemp Stadium.

 

Wyatt Thompson rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries for the Bulldogs. Tylin Drakeford had five caches for 116 yards and a score while also running for a touchdown. Navi Boykin ran for 44 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Treyvon Wright had a 30-yard TD reception.

Baker Publisher Moncks Corner —With thanks to the web site “High School Football America’s Draft Tracker” the HSSR is very proud of the 8 young men who played high school football in the state of South Carolina who had their names called in the recent NFL draft, held in Green Bay Wisconsin. While we already knew the majority of these athletes drafted, based on watching the draft in real time, this wonderful “High School Football America’s Draft Tracker” allows us to verify which states had the most players drafted, and share our own feelings about how the state of South Carolina stacks up against the rest of the nation based on sheer population numbers among other factors. In the recent draft the top 10 states in players drafted from high schools in each state included: Texas (36), Florida (24), Georgia (22), California (15), Virginia (10), with Michigan , Alabama , and North Carolina next with 9 each, while South Carolina and Maryland closed out the nation’s top 10 states at 8 each. As someone who has followed the NFL draft closely for the past 40 years, this reporter was a bit surprised at some of the NFL numbers produced by states who use to average more drafted high school players, than they produced in the 2025 draft. For example, the state of Ohio, with a population of 11.88 million people had just seven home grown players drafted in 2025. Pennsylvania, with a population of 13.8 million people had just five former high school players drafted! The 8 players from South Carolina include three from the Gamecocks. They include former Irmo FS Nick Emmanwori , (pick 35 by Seatle), former Marion star DL T.J. Sanders (pick 41 by Buffalo), and former Conway stand-out Tonka Hemingway (pick 135 by Las Vegas). Former Hammond five-star rated DL Jordan Burch , who spent the past two seasons at Oregon, after starting his career with South Carolina was pick 78 by Arizona. Former Clover High WR and Virgina Tech player Jaylin Lane went to Washington with the 128 th pick. Louisville’s Quincey Riley, a CB who played at AC Flora was drafted by New Orleans with pick 131. Former Gaffney stud and Georgia DL Tyrion Ingram - Dawkins was chosen by Minnesota with pick 139. The 8 th and final player drafted from the state of South Carolina was former Rock Hill and current Alabama tight end Robbie Ouzts. Based on a per capita formula, factored mainly on population and number of high schools in each state fielding a varsity football team, the state of South Carolina must be considered one of the top states in the nation for producing NFL talent year-end and year-out. Let’s compare the bordering states of North and South Carolina to document real data. The state of North Carolina produced 9 NFL signees in the recent draft, one more than South Carolina. They have a population of 11 million people, with nearly 525 high school varsity football programs. (Both public and private schools) The state of South Carolina has a population of 5.4 million people with around 252 public and private varsity football programs in the Palmetto State. On this per capita formula one would have to give the edge to South Carolina is the actual production of NFL talent based on the criteria used. The aforementioned information is a key reason the HSSR continues to complain about the accuracy of national recruiting services, who put out lists, in advance of the upcoming May Evaluation football recruiting period. As of April, 27 th 247 Sports listed 15 2026 players from the state of North Carolina in their national Top 247 Player list while only listing three players from the state of South Carolina! If this does not confirm a bias towards the state of South Carolina we hardly know what would! The facts are the facts. Going back 40 years there has only been an average difference of around two players a year difference between the two states in prep players going on to be drafted in the NFL despite the fact the state of North Carolina has twice the population and twice the number of high schools playing football. If you currently have 15 players in their Top 247 from North Carolina, the state of South Carolina should have at least 12 players in the current 2026 class on their list based on real data over time! The three prep players listed from South Carolina include South Pointe FS J’Zavien Currence , committed to South Carolina and Dorman FS Kentavious Anderson , a hard lean-to Clemson, along with Dutch Fork DE Julian Walker who is uncommitted. Numerous players in South Carolina, with 10 or more major college offers did not make the national 247 list headed up by Timberland OL Desmond Green who will come into the May recruiting period with 21 major college offers. Finally, there are only 20 players from South Carolina currently listed on the 247 state-by-state list, despite the fact the Palmetto State had 40 players sign on with major college football programs in 2025! At the same time, 247 Sports lists 54 players on the North Carolina state-by-state list for May evaluation. Does this seem fair? Three months ago, the HSSR pointed out that six of the 80 players invited to participate in the Next Level Under Armour All-American game, for rising freshmen were from the state of South Carolina. This all-star game was played in Orlando, Florida and witnessed by numerous national scouting services, If the 2030 football class from South Carolina does not have five or six players on All National Top 300 list we should all throw up our hands and wonder who is behind a bias that is not properly promoting the talent level of high school football in South Carolina.
