Johnston, S.C. – The Wardlaw Academy Lady Patriots coached by Katie Yonce fell short of their goal of winning the SCISA Class A Softball Title when they were defeated 13-12 by Holly Hill Academy in the State tournament.
The Lady Patriots final 2026 record was 6-12. However, it could have been 11-7 had they scored 10 more runs in their 5 one run defeats against Augusta Christian (7-8), Jefferson Davis (9-10), Hammond (9-10), Marlboro Academy (6-7) and Holly Hill Academy (12-13).
The Lady Patriots had a schedule with eight games against higher class teams that helped them to be very competitive against their Class A opponents.
Coach Yonce had strong leadership from her army of seniors. Katherine Trotter led the way with a batting average of .423 and 14 RBIs. Brianna McNeill followed batting .418 and 24 RBIs. Bailey Sturkie had a .367 and 19 RBIs. Taylor Hill batted .362 and 16 RBIs. Gracie Kelly batted .250 and 13 RBIs and Ashley Reichling batted .150 and 5 RBIs.
The under classmen were led by Ellie Yonce (8th) with a .436 average and 19 RBIs. Maddie Campbell (so) .375, Brilee Brazell (jr) .345 and Savannah McNeill (8th) .317.
Rounding out the Lady Patriot roster were Dorothy Kate Kemp, Brooklyn Proctor (fr), Olyvia Wall (jr), Charlotte Culver (fr) and Allysa Carpenter (jr).
Coach Yonce should have another competitive team in 2027 with a few add- on players coming up from the middle school team.
