South Florence runs through Myrtle Beach on the way to a 46-20 Region Win

Myrtle Beach – Friday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium South Florence and Myrtle Beach did battle in a key region 7 AAAA the Seahawks scored early to start the game but the Bruins scored 32 unanswered points on their way to a 46-20 victory.

           The win was the fourth straight for the Bruins after an 0-2 start and moved them to 2-0 in the region while the Seahawks dropped to 0-2 in the region and 2-4 overall. It was the Seahawks second consecutive loss.

           “We got off to slow start on both sides of ball but once we settled into the game we were able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball,” said SF coach Scott Braswell. “We felt we had an advantage up front and we challenged the both lines to control the game. They did an outstanding job.”

           The senior led offensive line was especially dominate as they paved the way for 323 yards on the ground averaging over 7 yards a carry. Senior running back Cameron James rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns. He has 978 yards on the year and has scored 11 touchdowns. Senior quarterback De’Eric Davis rushed for 77 yards and two scores.

           The games started off well for the home standing Seahawks as the defense forced the Bruins to punt on their first possession. The offense then went 53 yards in three plays on their second series of the game to take a 7-0 lead when junior quarterback Camden DeBruhi hit junior wide out Billy Miller on a 34-yard touchdown strike.

           “We had some mix ups in the secondary early but I liked the way we responded and made some adjustments. We also started getting pressure on their quarterback which always helps,” coach Braswell said.

           After each quarterback tossed an interception with MB’s Makhi Shaw stopping the SF drive at the one while SF’ Xavier Mitchell pick set the Bruins offense up with a first and goal from the MB five-yard line.

           Davis scored on the first play from the five and James added the two-point conversion and the Bruins took an 8-7 lead which they never relinquished.

           The Bruins would score on four of their next five possessions on drives of 82, 70, 65, and 55 yards. James would score three of his touchdowns on runs of one yard, 18-yards, and two yards. Davis would add the final score of the game for the Bruins.

           After the Seahawks first score the Bruin defense harassed DeBruhi all night long sacking him six time and causing 15 quarterback hurries. They were led seniors linebacker Zach Gordon, defensive linemen QuaShawn Byrd and Josh Gantt had five tackles for loss and four sacks.

           DeBruhi and Miller connected again on a 64-yard touchdown catch and run. JJ Brown scored the Seahawks final touchdown of the night when DeBruhi hit for a 64 yard scoring pass.

           After back-to-back road games the Bruins will host the Conway Tigers (2-3/1-0) in another region match with the winner remaining undefeated in region play.

           The Seahawks will have their open week to get things turned around in the right direction before they host the Tigers as well.
