Summerville – The Pinewood Prep Football team responded to a two-game skid by winning its next four games.

The Panthers lost to Northwood Academy (24-21) Aug. 23 and to SCISA power Hammond (48-14) the next week. They then reeled off wins against Trinity Collegiate (43-32), Camden Military (49-6), Hilton Head Christian Academy (60-20) and Wilson Hall (49-7) to improve to 5-2 on the season. The win at Hilton Head Christian was particularly sweet because it was the team’s first region game and that is the team that eliminated Pinewood from the playoffs last season.

“We played a strong schedule at the beginning of the season but are starting to play some teams more at our level,” Pinewood coach DeVonte Holloman said. “Hopefully we will carry the competitiveness from the first few games throughout the season.”

At Hilton Head, Jeremiah Singleton carried 26 times for 420 yards and four Pinewood touchdowns. Quarterback Asa Windham threw TD passes to Jayden Alexander, Jaden Bellush and Terrance Stallworth. He completed 22 of 27 pass attempts for 237 yards with no interceptions. On the other side of the ball, Windham had a sack.

Alexander finished with four receptions for 85 yards and Stallworth finished with nine receptions for 46 yards.

Alex Hylton was 7 of 7 on PAT kicks.

Against Wilson Hall, Windham completed 15 of 17 pass attempts for 315 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 42 yards. Singleton had 14 carries for 128 yards and three TDs and made three receptions for 66 yards and a TD. Bellush led the Panthers’ receivers with two catches for 107 yards and a TD. Stallworth had five catches for 88 yards and a TD. Alexander also had a TD catch.

Senior Connor White led the Pinewood defense with nine tackles including four solo stops. Jayden Parrot had seven tackles while Will Watson had six including four solo stops. Carson Good and Dawson Wilson both had five.

Hylton averaged 47.9 yards per kickoff and sent three out of seven into the end zone for a touchback. He was 7 of 7 on PAT kicks.

Through the first seven games, Windham has completed 73 passes for 1,162 yards and 16 touchdowns while throwing only three interceptions. He also rushed for 259 yards and three scores. Will Watson has completed 12 passes for 242 yards.

Singleton leads the Panthers’ rushers with 108 carries for 1,035 yards and 18 TDs. Stallworth leads the receivers with 27 catches for 527 yards and 8 TDs. Alexander has 17 receptions for 267 yards and 4 TDs and Bellush has 10 receptions for 222 yards and 4 TDs.

White is the Panthers’ leading tackler with 55 tackles including 27 solo stops. Daniel Wiggins has 35 tackles including 19 solo stops. Parrot has 35 tackles including 9 solo stops.

JT King leads the team in sacks with 2.5. Wiggins leads the team in interceptions and fumble recoveries with two in each category.

This week, Pinewood travels to Coastal Homeschool.

By David Shelton Senior Writer Charleston – First Baptist School has new leadership within its football program and athletic department for the coming 2025-26 school year. Kevin Mapp was hired as the new head football coach in the early spring and Jay Godbolt was hired as the new athletic director at the start of the summer. Mapp has extensive coaching experience on both the college and high school levels while also working in law enforcement. First Baptist is his first head coaching position. Mapp last coached defensive linemen at James Island Charter High and has had coaching stints at James Madison, Hampden-Sydney, Georgetown, Marshall, Missouri State and Coastal Carolina. Mapp graduated from James Madison and was a defensive lineman on the 2004 Division I-AAA (now FCS) national championship team. “Coaching has always been my passion,” Mapp said. “Ever since I was playing, I wanted to be a coach. I have always found a way to coach while working in law enforcement. I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunities to do both.” Mapp has been with the Charleston County police department for the last 10 years. He took some time away from coaching to start a family. “I felt like First Baptist was the perfect fit for me and my family,” Mapp says. “It’s a great opportunity at a great place. The kids here work hard and there is a lot of support from the administration. I’m excited to be the head football coach at First Baptist.” Mapp has hired coordinators on both sides of the ball. Will McCombs , once the head coach of the program, will call the offensive plays. Chris Hart comes over from James Island as the defensive coordinator. “Our numbers are improving and the kids are working hard,” Mapp said. “I feel like we can be a competitive team. It’s year one of the building process.” Godbolt has been a coach and athletic director in the Charleston area for nearly two decades. As the boys basketball coach at Charleston Collegiate, Godbolt coached three state championship teams. He also has been a coach and athletic director at Lowcountry Leadership Academy. Godbolt has more than 450 career victories as a head basketball coach. Current First Baptist basketball coach Antoine Saunders was Godbolt’s assistant at Charleston Collegiate.
