Scott's Branch thrower Jernee Ford 2nd in discus, 7th in shot put in Class A girls track state meet
Fra'Jon Bennett finishes 4th in 800 in boys meet; 4x400 relay team also finishes 4th
Summerton – Scott’s Branch High School thrower Jernee Ford placed in two events in the girls portion of the Class A track and field state meet while three members of the boys team placed as well.
Ford finished second in the discus and seventh in the shot put in the meet held on May 16 at Spring Valley’s Harry Parone Stadium in Columbia. In the discus, Ford had a toss of 103 feet, 4 15/16 inches. Her throw in the shot covered 32-09 5/16.
On the boys side, Fra’Jon Bennett finished fourth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 5.02 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team also finished fourth. Quinten Jackson was eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.55 seconds.
Riley York, Azari Taylor and Taraji Logan all qualified for state but did not place. York competed in the 400-meter dash, Logan in the 400-meter hurdles and Taylor in the long jump.
For the boys, Nazaiah Richardson competed in the 400. The 4x100-meter relay team also qualified.
In the Class A lower state meet at Carvers Bay High in Hemingway on May on May 9, Ford won the discus and was fourth in the shot put. Logan was fourth in the 400 hurdles, York fifth in the 400 and Taylor eighth in the long jump.
For the boys, Bennett was the lower state champion in the 800. Montrell Session was fifth in the long jump, Richardson was sixth in both the 100 and 400, Jackson was seventh in the 100, the 4x400 relay team was fourth and the 4x100 relay team finished sixth.
In the Region 5 meet at the St. John’s High track in John’s Island on April 28, Ford led the way for the girls by winning both the shot and the discus. Logan finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, Taylor was fifth in the long jump, York was fifth in the 400 dash and the 4x100 relay team finished fifth as well.
The boys team claimed five region championships led by Session. He won both the 400 and the long jump.
Bennett brought home the gold in the 800 while the 4x100 team and the 4x400 team were both winners.
Session and Richardson went 1-2 in the 400. Jackson placed second in both the 100 and 200, while Session was third in the 100 and Richardson came in fourth.
Jamarey Conyers added a fourth-place finish in the 200. Steven Ragin was fourth in the 1,600 run and RyQuon York was fourth in the 3,200. Bennett was third in the triple jump and the 4x800 relay team was third.
