Camden athletic department maintains most of head coaching staff
Brian Rimpf preparing for 10th season as Bulldog football head coach
Camden – Camden High School will have a few changes to its varsity head coaching staff, but perhaps the biggest change will be where the school’s athletic department will be doing business in the 2026-27 school year.
After spending the past two seasons competing – and doing quite well one might add -- in the AAAA classification, Camden has returned to the AAA classification following the South Carolina High School League’s biannual reclassification.
Camden will be part of the 6-school Region 4, with the other five schools being located either in Richland County or Lexington County. The other schools are Airport, Brookland-Cayce, Gilbert, Lower Richland and Swansea. Camden, of course, is located in Kershaw County.
There will only be three newcomers to the Bulldogs head coaching staff, but only two are known at this time. Chris Dixon will be in charge of wrestling, while James Seymore will now coach boys and girls track and field.
A new boys soccer head coach has yet to be named.
Brian Rimpf will be back as the athletic director and football head coach. This will be Rimpf’s 10th season in charge of football, and the record speaks for itself. The Bulldogs went 9-4 last season, giving them their eighth straight season of at least eight wins and seventh straight of nine wins or more.
Rimpf returns the biggest part of his assistant coaching staff. Savionn Wingate is back for his second season at the offensive coordinator. Wingate will not coach the running backs this year. That job will go to returning assistant Quan Morris. Josh Council will coach the quarterbacks, while veteran Calvin McRoy will handle the tight ends, and Davea Cauthen will again coach the wide receivers.
The only newcomer to the offensive staff is Benny DeBruhl, who handle the line.\
Joey Hendrix is back as the defensive coordinator. Also returning to the staff are co-defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach Cedrick Malone, linebackers coach Denny Beckley, defensive line coach Marshall Minich, cornerbacks coach Lamar Keitt and outside linebackers coach Demarius Alexander.
The only newcomer to the defensive staff is veteran assistant coach Alan Gandy, who will coach the safeties.
Beckley will be back as the baseball coach. He guided Camden to the state playoffs for the 23rd time in his 26 seasons in charge. The Bulldogs won district championships in both of the years they competed at the AAAA level.
Sterling Council is returning for his sixth season as boys basketball head coach, while Lewis Mungo is back for his third year heading up girls basketball.
Matt Spolski returns as the boys cross country coach, while Matt McCarley will again be the girls golf head coach. Clayton Daniels will coach the boys. Nolan Hunter will be back for his second season in charge of softball, and Emma Morrison for her second year as the girls and boys swim teams head coach, Other second-year coaches are Austin Spolski in girls cross country coach, and Reagan Payseur for both the boys and girls tennis programs.
Tiffany Ellis will be in charge of the competitive cheer team, and Paul Ahern will be the girls soccer head coach. Tristany Radford will return for her second year as the leader of the volleyball program.
Former girls basketball head coach Natalie Norris is the assistant athletic director.
