Latta athletic program looks to continue to grow
Football head coach Brandon Iseman has longest tenure as he prepares for his 12th season
Latta – The Latta High School athletic program is coming off of an outstanding school year, and athletic director Robbie Brown sees no reason why the same can’t happen in the upcoming year.
“The 2026-27 school year is about building something greater than ourselves,” Brown said. “Together, as one athletic department, we will lead with purpose, compete with passion and uphold the proud tradition of Latta athletics. Excellence will be our expectation, not our goal.”
Brown guided the Vikings baseball team to the 2026 Class A state championship. Latta, which beat McBee in three games to win the title series, finished with a 27-10 record.
Anna Rogers will be back as the softball head coach. After leading the Vikings to the 2025 state title, Rogers got them to the if game in the lower state tournament of the Class A playoffs and a 15-12 record.
Rogers will also coach the boys and girls cross country teams.
Both of the basketball coaches will be back after outstanding seasons. Bobby Richardson coached the Latta girls to the lower state championship game, the Region 6 title and a 20-5 record. The boys went 18-6 under Chris Page, reaching the third round of the playoffs and finishing second in the region.
Sandra Gomillon will be the golf head coach.
Latta will have two new head coaches on staff this year. Amber Jordan will coach volleyball, and Michael Donald will handle boys and girls track and field.
The person with the longest tenure on the Latta head coaching staff is Brandon Iseman, who is getting ready for his 12th year in charge of the football program. Iseman led the Vikings to an 8-3 record last season in which they reached the second round of the state playoffs, losing to eventual champion Bamberg-Ehrhardt.
Iseman has his entire coaching staff returning this year. Sport Sawyer is back for his second year as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Brown will coach the offensive line, Richardson the wide receivers and Page the running backs.
On the defensive side, Iseman will be the coordinator and coach the linebackers, while Brandon Page will coach the D line, and Donald will be in charge of the defensive backs.
Iseman is happy with the continuity he and his coaching staff have developed.
“We have a lot of guys who have been with me for close to a decade,” Iseman said. “We have a feel for each other, what we’re thinking, what we’re trying to achieve and the standard we’ve set for doing things. I think it all flows pretty well.”
