Fox Creek football team has its hands fufll as a member of Region 5-AAAA
Running back Bryson Crawford runs for 247 yards and 5 TDs in 49-20 win over Dixie
North Augusta – It was not an easy go of it for the Fox Creek high School football team with its non-region schedule The Predators went 1-4.
Now that the Region 5-AAAA schedule has begun, the future portends an even greater struggle for FCHS.
Fox Creek opened region play on October 2 with a 35-0 loss to South Aiken, which is now 5-1 and ranked sixth in the High School Sports Report AAAA poll. The Thoroughbreds are one of three region teams ranked, the others being Irmo at No. 2 and North Augusta at No. 5.
The other two region teams are 4-3 Aiken and 3-3 Midland Valley.
“Everybody in this region is very good,” said first-year Predators head coach David Sammons. “You talk about your murderer’s row.”
FCHS was a AA school just in the 2023-24 school year, moved to AAA for two years and is now at AAAA because of the multiplier rule used in counting student bodies.
“We’re fighting the good fight,” Sammons said. “We’re playing a ton of sophomores, starting two freshmen. We only have five seniors. We’re just tryng to go out and be competitive. We’ve been in every game up to a point.
“We’ve gotten better every week. That’s been my goal, to get better. Some of the scores have been deceiving.”
Standout running back Bryson Crawford has been hampered by injuries. He’s only played two games but has 376 yards. He ran for 247 yards and five TDs in the Predators’ 49-20 win over Dixie.
Quarterback Julian Abro has completed 73 or 122 passes for 891 yards and eight touchdowns.
Armani Jones leads in receptions with 19 for 247 yards, while Lucas Joye has 17 for 277, Chartavious Weaver 14 for 164 and Carter Hoppe 12 for 144.
