Patrick Henry's Glover, Adkins, Stanley, Sexton, Guty All-Region selections
PHA football moving from Class A to AA after SCISA reclassification; other sports moving from AAA to AA
Estill – Neither boys head coach Claude Terry nor girls head coach Anthony Creech could make any bones about it Neither felt their Patrick Henry Academy basketball teams played up to snuff in the just completed season.
“As for the season it definitely wasn’t what I expected,” said Creech, whose girls team finished with an 11-11 overall record and lost to Williamsburg Academy 57-53 in the first round of the SCISA AAA state tournament. “We had a ton of talent on this team, and we just couldn’t get it together as a group. We lost some games we should have won, but that comes with it.”
“I was a little disappointed in the season after starting 5-2 and ending 6-16 without a region win and missing the playoffs for the irst time in my four years at PHA,” Terry said..
The Patriots girls had three players selected All-Region in Region 4-AAA. They were senior Emilee Stanley, sophomore Sara Guty and senior Saquioa Sexton.
Stanley was the leading scorer with a 9.2 points-per-game average. She also averaged 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.8 steals. Guty averaged 6.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. Sexton was a defensive force with 10.3 rebounds per game and 1.7 bloced shots.
She also averaged 7.4 points.
Daivon Glover and Tray Adkins were the All-Region players for Patrick Henry. Glover had a tremendous season, averaging 21.3 points over the season, 28 points a game in region play. He also average 3.0 steals and 2.9 steals.
Glover, a senior who was selected to play in the SCISA North-South All-Star Game, went over 1,000 points for his career. He had a career high 41 points this season.
Adkins, also a senior, averaged 11.4 points. He also averaged 8.5 rebounds, 1.1 blocked shots and 3.1 assists, both team highs.
Junior Michael Mizell averaged 9.1 points and 3.6 rebounds, and senior Jacob Corley averaged 6.2 points and 5.3 rebounds.
RECLASSIFICATION AFFECTS ALL PHA SPORTS
Patrick Henry will have a different look in both football and its other sports following the release of the reclassification list. And there is an ironic oddity to all of this as wel.
After playing Class A football for the past four years and winning the 2023 state title, PHA will move up to the AA level next season.
The other sports will also be moving to the AA level next season. However, that comes after playing at the AAA level the past three years.
