Wilson Hall girls win SCISA Division I track and field state meet
Barons boys finish third
Sumter – The Wilson Hall girls track and field team used some strong performances – and a whole lot of depth – to win the SCISA Division I state meet started on May 3 and completed on May 5 at the Ben Lippen School track in Columbia.
The Lady Barons won the event with 149 points, outdistancing second place Porter-Gaud by 19 points. They had two first-place finishes and six second-place finishes while scoring points by placing in the top eight in an event 24 other times.
The only individual event winner was Molly Jones in the 400-meter hurdles. She had a time of 1minute, 05.63 seconds. Teammates Karsen Jones and Abrielle Naylor finished second and fifth, respectively.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Molly Jones, Abby Bradley, Bailey Flemming and Ella Still set a school record with a time of 4:04.93.
The other second-place finishes were Bradley in the 400-meter dash, Molly Jones in the 1,600-meter run, McKinley Bath in both the high jump and the javelin and Camryn Wilmes in the triple jump.
Wilson Hall placed multiple times in 10 events, including claiming five of the eight spots in the pole vault.
Those who finished in third place were Christian Osgood in the vault and the 4x800 relay team.
Those who brought home five points with fourth-place finishes were Flemming in both the 400 and the triple jump, Logan Mims in the javelin, Clara Holshizer in the pole vault and the 4x100 relay team.
Other fifth-place finishers were Molly Jones in the 800 run, Karsen Jones in the 100 hurdles, Grace Stewart in the high jump and Isabella Quiroz in the pole vault.
Those who scored with sixth-place finishers were Kate-Austen Kaneft in the pole vault, Bradley in the high jump and Still in the 400.
Seventh-place finishers were Mary Foley in the 1,600, Mary Ellen Thorne in the 3,200 run, Mims in the triple jump, Livie Pedersen in the pole vault and Ashley Carter in the discus.
Scoring a single point by finishing eighth were Mims in the long jump, Foley in the 800 and Bowen Zitzke in the 100 hurdles

On the boys side, Wilson Hall was third with 85 points, four behind second place Porter-Gaud.
Wilson Hall’s two gold medals came in the 4x400 relay in 3:32.39 and the 4x800 in 8:12.75.
Taking silver medals were Jack Gratz in the 800, Shep Vincent in the 400 hurdles and Hugh Humphries in the high jump. Ford Wilder was fourth in the triple jump followed by Knox Buxton and Alex Johnson.
Gratz was fifth in the 400 while the other sixth-place finishers were Ben Rabon in the 800, Caulder Williamson in the 1,600 and Miguel Wagner in the discus.
Those who finished seventh were Wilder in the long jump, Williamson in the 800 and the 4x1 relay team. Eighth-place finishers were Harris Huffman in the 110 hurdles and Nolan Gooch in the 400 hurdles.
