Belton-Honea Path's Russell Blackston anxious for football season
Bears will be trying to get back to the AAA state championship game again
Honea Path – After playing for the AAA state championship last season, Belton-Honea Path High School football head coach Russell Blackston is all keyed up to see what awaits the Bears in the 2025 campaign.
“Our summer has gone well,” said Blackston, who guided BHP to a 13-2 overall record. “I’m really anxious to see where we’re at. We must get better these last two weeks before we start (fall practice) on July 31.”
Blackston will be assisted by John Ballenger, Dalton Mclain, Chris Rogers, Chris Strickland, Josh Wade, Cody O’Brien, Shamad Jordan and Chris Donovan.
Jody LeCroy is returning as the Belton-Honea Path athletic director. He made a trio of new hires for the upcoming school year.
Paige Knotts will be the new volleyball coach, Max Bolden is the new girls basketball head coach and is the new boys soccer coach.
Chad Roper returns as the baseball coach as does state-championship-winning Jarad Jennings for softball. Meredith Hitch is coaching girls tennis, Andrew Reeves boys tennis, Tessa Gambrell girls golf, Rogers boys golf, Stephanie Colley-Hughes cheer, Sam Patterson boys and girls cross country, Russ Tyst boys basketball, Strickland wrestling, Blair Streifel girls soccer and Shamad Lomax boys and girls track and field.
