Indian Land beats St. James 3-1 to force deciding game in AAAAA Division II title series

Game 3 to be played at South Florence on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

Murrells Inlet Indian Land High School rode the pitching of Avery Clark to a 3-1 victory over St. James on Friday iin Game 2 of the best-of-3 AAAAA Division II softball state championship series to force a deciding game on Saturday.

 

    The third game will be played at the South Florence field beginning at 1 p.m.

 

 

Clark limited the Sharks, who lost for just the second time in 33 games, to just two hits. Both of those hits came from Raegan Tibbitts. The right-handed Clark finished with 10 strikeouts while walking five.

 

    Tibbitts was the losing pitcher. She went the distance, scattering seven hits and walking four while striking out four.

 

Indian Land, which improved to 27-7, grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Taylor Marvin singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Alaura Mitchell.

 

IL picked up its other two runs in the third. Clark led off with a triple before Harper Murphy walked. Clark scored on a Logan Thomas sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Murphy scored on a double by Olivia Miller.

 

SJ got its run in the sixth. McKenzie Kraus drew a walk and scored on a double by Tibbitts.
