The HSSR 39th Straight Prep Football Media Day On July 23rd At USC’s Weather Proof Indoor Practice Facility In Columbia

From Staff Reports

Moncks CornerThe High School Sports Report, the nation’s only statewide publication/web site (hssr.com) devoted exclusively to the coverage of high school athletics in South Carolina, and the proud recipient of a National Public Service Award for outstanding coverage of high school sports in South Carolina, by the National Federation of High Schools in 2021, will conduct a 39th annual prep football media day on Wednesday July, 23rd inside the football practice facility at the University of South Carolina.

“First of all, we want to thank South Carolina head football coach Shane Beamer and South Carolina Director of Football Operations George Wynn for making such a great weather proof venue available, once again, for our picture shoot, and interviews, we will be conducting on July 23rd between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.,” said HSSR Founder & Publisher Billy G. Baker. “We are the only media left in South Carolina producing a 100-page plus football tabloid, with the sincere goal of covering all 255 public and private schools fielding football teams in the Palmetto State.

Any high school varsity football player is invited to attend the media day, totally free of charge, but you must have the approval of your head football coach, and be in good standing with your team in order to attend media day.

Players need only to wear their game jerseys to the event. Each player will be given an HSSR information sheet to fill out on  themselves. They are asked to stay with their team group. Every player who attends the media day will have their individual picture taken, for potential use in the August football issue, or other issues through-out the fall. There will also be team group pictures taken as well.

After individual and team group pics are made, the HSSR will then take position group photos of all players at media day. At this time, you must choose what position you primarily play. You can only appear in one position photo. In the August football issue their will, be stories written on each position. After position group pics are complete players are free to leave with the exception of any HSSR Top 100 2026 players (this list will be posted on the door as you enter the practice facility) or Top 30 2027 players, and you will be asked to pose for an additional picture to be used in the August publication.

The HSSR football tabloid, published in late August, will be mailed to all 132 major college football programs in the nation, as well to over 250 football playing colleges also.

“By having the event on a Wednesday, we will not be in conflict with the annual high school Coaches Clinic that will be starting on July, 27,” said Baker. “Also, we are hoping to have more players at the event who have missed the media day in the past when taking unofficial visits to colleges on the weekends”

Any head football coach at the event we also be interviewed. Any media in the state that covers high school football are also welcome to attend the event.

By David Shelton Senior Writer – Change can be a positive thing and the Trinity Collegiate football program has made a change at the top, one they hope can lead the program into championship contention. Shawn Fagan was hired in March as the new head coach of the Titans but wasn’t able to begin his 2025 season preparation until May. The new coach has been busy at meeting and learning his returning players but also working to encourage new faces to join the field. “The numbers were a concern but it’s getting better,” Fagan reports. “We will probably add some once school starts as well. We have 11 seniors and our first group can be very competitive. Depth is our biggest concern right now.” Fagan is the former head coach at Cathedral Academy and spent time recently as an assistant at Pinewood Prep and St. John’s Christian. He has a solid foundation of how he wants his team to play. “We will try to use our talent at quarterback and running back and be multiple offensively,” he said. “We want to be physical on defense. We won’t limit ourselves through. If we have to open up the entire playbook we will. The guys we have are buying in and the talent we have returning will help us complete. We are very talented at some spots and we need those guys to produce for us.” Fagan expects senior Davidson Lynch to be the starting quarterback. Lynch saw time last season and his strengths are throwing the football. He totaled 1,346 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air last season, Desmond Williams and Jyell Preston will be the go-to receivers while Robert Mack and Andre Jackson are productive veterans in the running game. Mack had nearly 600 yards rushing while Jackson averaged seven yards per carry. Anchoring the lines of scrimmage are veterans Jonathan Cottingham and KJ Allen. Linebackers Mac Burch and William Wilcox anchor the defense. Both had more than 100 tackles last season. The Titans will open the 2025 season against Pee Dee Academy, the defending class AA state champions.
