Summerville---Playing at home, in front of a packed house on October, 17, Ashley Ridge senior running back Ryan Campbell (6-0,180) led the Foxes to a 42-19 win over rival Summerville rushing for 202 yards on 25 carries and he scored four touchdowns in the win.

The win gives Ashley Ridge a 3-0 region record, 5-3 overall), as they are now preparing for a road game against James Island, (7-1, 2-1) this week. Ashley Ridge can clinch the region 8-AAAAA title with a win over the talented Trojans this week.

Ashley Ridge senior quarterback Trevor Kalisz (5-11, 215) also completed 12-of-16 passes for 120 yards and he threw a 45-drive touchdown reception to Campbell during the game also. Kalisz’s 47-yard touchdown run in the first period set the stage for a big night of offensive production for the Foxes.

After the game, interim head coach Ashley Haskins told the HSSR, “Our kids came to play tonight, and we had a great play call on our first drive of the game, when our quarterback (Kalisz) read the play perfectly, and puled the ball back, and took up off the field and he showed off the speed people should not take for granted,” said Coach Haskins. “He can run with the football and that play got us kick-started on offense.

“Also, our running back (North-South- Ryan Campbell) can do anything,” said Coach Haskins. “He can catch the ball out of the back field, and he has tremendous speed. There are times when you think he might be down, headed up into the line of scrimmage, but he breaks tackles and uses his speed to get away from tacklers. He got some tough yardage tonight against a very good defense.”

Campbell scored on runs of five, five and 28 yards, and he caught a screen pass for 45-yard touchdown in the third quarter of the game.

Coach Haskins talked about the upcoming game with James Island. “They are very talented, and we have seen some of their film against common opponents. They are a heck of a team, and we will need to play well at their place for sure.”

Ashely Ridge was led on defense against the Gren Wave by soph LB MJ Repass (5-11, 190) who had 14 tackles along with senior North-South DL Malquan Primental (6-3, 200) who had 13 tackles.

After the game, Summerville head coach Ian Rafferty told the HSSR, “Ashley Ridge did a heck of a job tonight,” he said. “We just did not come out and play well. They had a lot to do with that. They have a good football team, regardless of their record.

“We just failed to execute on things that I felt like we would come out here and do,” said Coach Rafferty. “We were flat on both sides of the ball. We are still one of the most penalized teams in America. That is a lack of discipline, and that’s own me.

“Hats off to them because they played well and won the game,” said Coach Rafferty. “We lost the game to a good team. We battled back a little bit in the second half, and we had chances, but when you do not do the things, you are supposed to do it is hard to win.

“Our goal is to go 1-0 every week and we certainly did not do that this week,” said Coach Rafferty. “Hopefully, we will battle back. We got humbled big time tonight.”

Summerville was led on the ground against A-R by junior RB Jayven Williams who had around 143 net yards on 30 carries including two rushing touchdowns of three and one yards in the game.

Summerville tied the game at 7 in the first period on a 30-yard TD reception by junior WR prospect Jaiden Kelly-Murray from quarterback Matt Stafford. Williams scored Summerville’s final two touchdowns on short runs.

The Green Wave defense was spear headed by North-South selection LB Jordan Ravenell.

Ashley Ridge’s other touchdowns came on a half-back pass to Josiah Mitchell.
