Charleston Athletic director Richard Luden says there are few changes among the coaching staff at West Ashley for the coming school year.
Aside from a few hires in football and a new girl’s golf coach, things remained pretty much the same.
West Ashley is starting a girl’s golf this fall and Luden has hired former College of Charleston player Kelly White to direct that program. Caitlin Brown has been hired as the school’s athletic trainer.
Added to head coach Bobby Marion’s football staff are outside linebackers coach Bill Weinberg and defensive line coach Wayne Greenway.
Luden also returns to the program as the boy’s track coach. Returning to direct the cross country program is Bob Williams while Marion returns as the head football and head softball coach at the school.
Ryan Cumback returns to coach boy’s golf and Jeremy Morris is the girl’s track coach. Ralph Urbanic is returning to coach wrestling while Brad Blake is the school’s swim coach.
In basketball, Ronnie Dupre returns to coach the boys and Maria Williams is back as the girl’s coach. Dupre will also coach boy’s tennis in the spring. Stephen Jackson is the boy’s soccer coach and Drew McNeely is the girl’s soccer coach.
Mitch Miggenburg will return as the head baseball coach while Christy Jickling heads up the successful volleyball program in the fall.
Thomas Cousins will be the football team’s defensive coordinator and Brad Thomas returns as the secondary coach.
Lou Dawson is back to coach the offensive line in football and Jeremy Morris coaches wide receivers.
“We really do have great people coaching our teams,” said Luden. “They are hard-working and dedicated to their sport. They do a great job of raising money for their respective teams and they really do care for their players. My job is to try to provide them enough resources to do their jobs well. It’s tough at times, especially these days, to give them everything they want but we do what we can.
“Our goal is for every team to be competitive within our own region and get an opportunity in the state playoffs,” said Luden. “We are getting there. Our region is so solid in most every sport so we really have to work hard. We’re not where we want to be in all of our sports right now but we’re going to keep working and building.”
