Summerton — After going 6-5 in 2022, and placing third in SCISA 1-A region, Clarendon Hall is hoping to be a region contender under first year head football coach and athletic director Todd Larrimer.
“I am pleased with our progress so far, but we are not where we need to be,” said Coach Larrimer after working out 30 varsity candidates in the late afternoon of August, 1. “We have a lot of work to do to get ready for our first scrimmage at East Clarendon on Monday.”
The 2023 Saints will be led by the return of experienced Darius Aiken who had a successful junior season. Receiver Kole Elliott returns along with veteran senior Wilder Robinson. Robinson will play some at tailback and start at one of the linebacking slots for the Saints.
Senior Brock Mathis returns at QB to give that important position some depth. Carson Fields returns as the starting center and he will be the leader in the offensive trenches. A couple of transfers will add depth to the team in LMA transfer Peyton McGee who will see action at tailback and flip to several positions on defense. Thomas Shorter will also provide depth at receiver.
Clarendon Hall will begin the 2023 season on the road at Thomas Sumter.
“Our big goal for the season is to win our first game, and play the season one game at the time and never look ahead,” said Coach Larrimer, who graduated from LMA in 2015. “We are still a work in progress.”
Coach Larrimer is assisted by defensive coordinator Stewart Price. Barnwell graduate Matt Baxley is the offensive coordinator. Other assistants include Wells Robinson, Rev. Billy Carlisle and Trey Bagnal.
