St. Stephen – Several members of the Timberland High track and field program competed in the region 7-AA meet and a few of those were able to qualify for the Class AA state meet on May 20.
Athletes first had to qualify for the AA Lower State meet by posting a qualifying finish at the region meet. Then, if they perform well at the Lower State meet, they earn a chance to compete for gold at the state meet.
Alyson Branch was one of Timberland’s athletes that qualified for the state meet. She competed in the 800 meter finals, finishing 13th overall. Branch placed sixth in the region meet and also ran eighth in the 400 meter run at the region meet.
Weston Adkins of the boys team qualified for the state meet in the 400 meter run where he placed 13th overall. Adkins finished fourth in the event at the region meet.
Distance runner Harold Nolan qualified for the state finals in the 3200 meter run after a second-place run in the region meet. Nolan ran to a seventh-place finish in the 3200 at the state meet. He also finished fifth at the region meet in the 1600 meter run.
Malachi Milligan was the region champion in the 110 hurdles. He qualified for the state meet and finished 10th overall among the AA hurdlers.
Keyon Wright posted a sixth-place finish in the shot put and also was sixth in the discus throw.
Sprinter Jordan Thomas was the region champion in the 100 meter dash and Jaxson Rembert was the region champion in the 400 meter run. Skylar Bone finished fourth in the 400 and Tavian Smalls was the region champion in the long jump and region runner-up in the high jump.
Antuan Faison finished second in the triple jump at the region meet and Kylen Brown was fourth in the high jump. Carter Hawkins had a third place finish in the triple jump.
On the girls side in the region meet, China Greene was sixth in the 100 and fourth in the triple jump. Dasani Kinlaw was eighth in the 100 and 10th in the 200 while Jermariee Washington finished fourth in the 400.
Madalyn Outen was seventh in the 100 and 400 hurdles. Saniyah Wynn finished eighth in the discus and Allie Stalls finished sixth in the shot put.
All three of the girls relay teams (400, 1600, 3200) posted third-place finishes in their region meet.
