Goose Creek – If you only look at the scores of Hemingway’s six games so far this season it doesn’t look pretty but if take a bigger peak inside you will see that Tigers are making progress and they have some young players getting valuable playing time.
Head Coach Byron Abram sees the effort, “I can’t ask for more from the guys. They show up every day ready to work. They give great effort, but we are just over matched by more experienced teams.”
“We are very inconsistent and that happens with a young team. As we continue to grow and get better the results will come,” said coach Abram.
Sophomore quarterback Jabari Pearson (5-6, 130) has been a pleasant surprise. Playing his first year at quarterback he has shown a quick release, throws a good ball and has the ability to extend the play or make pick up yards with his feet.
“Jabari has done a good job running the offense and making plays. He gets the ball in the hands of our play makers,” coach Abram said.
On of the teams best play makers on both sides of the ball has been junior Jhamauri Greene (6, 145). He has good hands and gets north and south in a hurry once he catches the ball. He has also
Quentin Samuel (6-3, 280), a sophomore, has been solid on both lines. He has shown good quickness on the defensive line causing issues in the middle of the line.
“Quentin continues to be our team leader. He plays hard every night,” says coach Abrams.
Amari White has been a terror on the defensive side of the ball. The 5-10, 186 outside linebacker has been a familiar face in the backfield of everyone the Tigers have faced this season. He is quick off the ball and a sure tackler.
The Tigers will face rival Carvers Bay in their final home game and then they will finish on the road at Scott’s Branch and Johnsonville.
“I’m proud of this team because they fight every game out and if we can continue with that mentality and get more consistent on both sides of the ball, we can finish the season strong and build for the future,” the coach said.
