Spartanburg – The 87th edition of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas will be played on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Spartanburg High School’s Viking Stadium..
The game pits the top high school football players from South Carolina against the best players from North Carolina.
The Palmetto State roster features three of the top offensive linemen in the country, each of whom is committed to the University of South Carolina. They are Dillon’s Josiah Thompson, Woodland’s Kam Pringle and Greenville’s Blake Franks.
Daniel’s Watson Young is committed to Clemson, while Franks’ Greenville teammate Julius Tate is committed to Coastal Carolina.
The quarterbacks are Javion Martin of Crestwood (offers from Central Florida and Marshall) and Matthew Wilson of Rock Hill (Appalachian State). They will have a strong corps of receivers to throw to in Summerville’s Yannick Smith (East Carolina commitment), Westside’s Jimmar Boston (North Carolina State), Strom Thurmond’s Braylon Staley (Tennessee), Brookland-Cayce’s Will Young, Hillcrest’s Avery McFadden (Georgia State) and Calhoun County’s Zachary Christian (N.C. State).
The running backs are Midland Valley’s Traevon Dunbar, who has three Power 5 offers, Northwestern’s Turbo Richard (Boston College) and Christ Church’s Dashun Reeder (Army).
The defensive line commitments are Silver Bluff teammates Jayden Fuller (Miami (Ohio)) and Jordan Boyd (Georgia Tech), Hilton Head Island’s Shaikh Thompson (ECU), Lake City's Lorenzo McFadden-Pressley (Old Dominion) and Timir Hickman-Collins (Florida State). Riverside’s Marcus Downs has multiple Power 5 offers.
Among the linebackers, West Florence’s Kelvin Hunter is committed to USC. Jaiden Kimble of White Knoll has an offer from Group of 5 school Georgia Southern.
Marion’s Quay’sheed Scott is a defensive back who is a Kentucky commitment. Other DB commitments are Clinton’s Zay Johnson (Cincinnati) and Troy Stevenson (Georgia Tech). South Pointe’s Zantwan Nelson has several Group of 5 offers,
