Hartsville snaps 3-game losing streak with 49-14 victory over North Myrtle Beach

 

 North Myrtle Beach Hartsville High School snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 49-14 victory over North Myrtle Beach on Friday at The Hank.

 

 The Fed Foxes, ranked 12th in the High School Sports Report AAAA Sweet 16 poll at the time, improved to 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in Region 6-AAAA. The Chiefs fell to 2-6 and 0-3.

 

 Hakeem Watters ran for 215 yards and four TDs on 13 carries to lead HHS. Watters also had two catches for 41 yards.

 

 Quarterback McKendrie Douglas rushed for 113 yards and one TD on 14 carries while completing 9 of 10 passes for 111 yards.

 

 Jackson Moore had 19 carries for 66 yards and a TD and two catches for 11 yards. Brayden Smith was 7-for-7 on extra points.

 

 Da’Marion Coe led the defense with nine tackles and blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.’

 

 Landon Cloninger completed 18 of 29 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown while also running for a score. Kaden Gore had eight catches for 96 yards, and Brown Reaves caught four passes for 50 yards and a score.

 

 DJ Gause had nine tackles for the NMB defense.


        Carolina Forest 17

        Sumter 14

 

        Myrtle Beach Carolina Forest scored a touchdown with 19 seconds left in the game to defeat Sumter 17-14 on Friday at the CFHS field.

 

         The Gamecocks, who were ranked ninth in AAAAA, fell to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 5. Sixteenth-ranked Carolina Forest is 5-3 and 2-0.

 

         John Peeples led SHS with 92 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Quarterback Pate Merchant completed 11 of 17 passes for 124 yards.

 

         Anthony Addison led the Sumter defense witih 16 tackles and five tackles for loss. Jordane Lowery had 10 tackles and three TFLs while forcing a fumble. Jauroun Bennett had nine tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.


        Gaffney 17

Boiling Springs 7

 

Gaffney Gaffney High School improved to 2-0 in Region 2-AAAAA with a 17-7 victory over Boiling Springs on Friday at The Reservation.


       The Indians, who were ranked fourth in AAAAA, improved to 6-2 overall. Boiling Springs dropped to 3-6 and 0-3.

 

 Jaiden McDowell ran for 139 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries to lead the Indians offense. Quarterback Riley Staton completed 14 of 24 passes for 158 yards and a TD

 

 McDowell caught three passes for 27 yards and a TD. Devon Porter-Gist had two catches for 43 yards.

 

 Stone Furrey had a 53-yard interception return and King Dowdle returned an interception 42 yards for Gaffney. Caron Foster, Jarriel Jefferies and Andrew Ruppe each had two sacks.

 

Jefferies and Ruppe both had seven tackles, Furrey had six and Foster four.

 

 Lincoln Huskey ran for Boiling Springs’ only thouchdown on a 5-yard run. He rushed for 39 yards on 19 carries while completing 19 of 29 passes for 154 yards. Eli Mobley had three catches for 52 yards and Tristan Horsaey-Johnson had four catches for 43 yards.

 

 Kohen Sloand led the BSHS defense with 10 tackles and an interception.


Fort Dorchester 63

Stall 6


         North Charleston -- Fort Dorchester rolled to a 63-6 victory over Stall on Friday at the SHS field.


        The Patriots, who were ranked sixth in AAAAA, improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Region 7.  

       

 Ryan Campbell had two carries for 52 yards and two touchdowns for FDHS. Davian Brown had a 75-yard scoring run, while Naz Ridley had 11 carries for 57 yards and a score.

 

 Charles Watson completed both of his pass attempts for 77 yards and two touchdowns, Monty Johnson had two catches for 38 yards and a score and

 

Campbell also returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and returned a fumble five yards for another score.

 

 Northwestern 56

York 14

 

 York Northwestern High School raced out to a 42-0 halftime lead on the way to a 56-14 win over York on Friday at York Stadium.

 

The Trojans, ranked No. 1 in AAAA, improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 3. York, ranked 11th, fell to 6-2 and 2-1.

 

 Turbo Richard led NHS with three catches for 114 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 34 yards and two more scores on eight carries.

 

 Jayden Burns had three catches for 91 yards, while Eli Stradford had a 60-yard TD catch, and TaDarrion Knox had a 15-yard TD catch.

 

 Finley Polk completed 7 of 9 passes for 203 yards and a score, and Greer Hopkins completed 4 of 6 passes for 102 yards and two TDs..

 

 Jayden Woods returned a fumble 42 yards for a score, and Jayce Joseph returned a blocked punt 77 yards for a touchdown.

 

 Matthew Fish was 8-for-8 on extra point attempts.

 

 Mason Grier led the defense with four tackles, 2 ½ tackles for loss and one sack.

 

 Javarus Guthrie led York with 86 yards on 15 carries, while Zadarius Carter had seven catches for 84 yards.


Dutch Fork 41

Chapin 8

 

Chapin Dutch Fork High School improved to 3-5 on the season with a 41-8 victory over Chapin on Thursday at the CHS field.

 

 The Silver Foxes. who were ranked 12th in AAAAA, improved to 1-1 in Region 4. Chapin fell to 5-3 and 0-2..

 

 Dutch Fork’s Maurice Anderson rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while Trenton Lodge ran for two scores and 13 yards on four carries.

 

 Bryce Nutall led the defense with a 62-yard interception return to go with nine tackles, two TFLs and one sack.


 Brady Albro completed 21 of 36 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown and had 21 rushing yards on eight carries. Jacob Nerone had nine catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.

 

 Caleb Davis had 11 tackles to lead the Chapin defense. 


 

         West Florence 34

         Wilson 22

 

         Florence -- West Florence High School jumped out to a 21-0 lead and went on to a 34-22 victory over Wilson on Friday at the WFHS field.

 

         The Knights improved to 5-3 on the season and 2-1 in Region 6-AAA. WHS fell to 3-5 and 1-2.

 

         Ralph Boston had nine carries for 10 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 29 yards and a TD for the Tigers.

 

         Raquan McCall got the other touchdown off of an interception to go with four tackles and one TFL. Dominic Staten had eight tackles and three TFLs. Lashawn Mumford had eight tackles, and Kameron Jones had seven tackles and one TFL.

 

 Andrews 35

Kingstree 14

 

 Andrews – Andrews High School improved to 2-1 in Region 8-AA with a 35-14 victory over Kingstree on Friday.

 

         The game was tied 14-14 at halftime before Andrews, which was 14th in AA, outscored the Blazers 21-0 in the second half to improve to 6-3. Kingstree fell to 2-6 and 0-2.

 

         Quarterback Brandon Cumbee rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries to lead Andrews. AJ Lee had 70 yards and two scores on 14 carries, and Lavon White had 73 yards on 19 carries.

 

         Sharod Sumpter led the defense with seven tackles, while Zion Moyd had six tackles and an interception.

 

         Loris 31

         Georgetown 7

 

         Georgetown Loris High School outscored Georgetown 25-0 in the second half to pick up a 31-7 victory on Friday at the GHS field.

 

         Loris, which was ranked 16th in AAA, improved to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in Region 7-AAA. Georgetown fell to 0-7 and 0-3.

 

         Tray Knox rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries and ran for a 2-point conversion for Loris. Zhimire Herring caught a 37-yard TD pass.

 

         Quarterback Ja’Shaun Dorsey led the Blazers offense with 71 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. The other touchdown came on a 70-yard kickoff return by Xavier Dukes.

 

 James Brockington led the Kingstree defense with four tackles for loss among his six tackles. Terrance Scott had 11 tackles and one TFL, while Tyleek Dukes had 10 tackles.


 Clinton 36

Woodruff 20

 

Woodruff Clinton High School improved to 2-0 in Region 4-AAA with a 36-20 victory over Woodruff on Friday at Varner Stadium.

 

 The 6-2 Red Devils, who were ranked 11th in AAA, had a balanced offensive attack. Quarterback Tushawan Richardson completed 5 of 8 passes for 110 yards and one TD while rushing for 55 yards on six carries.

 

 DJ Clark had 13 carries for 88 yards, and Kadon Crawford had 59 yards on 10 carries and one catch for seven yards.

 

 Zay Johnson had three catches for 84 yards and a TD. Johnson had an interception on defense.

 

 TJ Morris led Woodruff, 3-5 and 1-2, by completing 21 of 32 passes for 270 yards and two TDs. Aiden Gibson had six catches for 164 yards and a TD, while Kory Scott had seven catches for 36 yards.

 

 Joshua Ruiz kicked two field goals.

 

 Whale Branch 42

Allendale-Fairfax 8

 

Allendale Whale Branch High School led only 7-0 at halftime, but scored 35 points in the second half for a 42-8 win over Allendale-Fairfax on Friday at the AFHS field.


         Whale Branch, which was ranked ninth in Class A, improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in Region 7. A-F fell to 4-4 and 2-1.

 

 Quarterback KJ Chisolm led Whale Branch offensively, rushing for 74 yards and two TDs on nine carries. He completed both of his pass attempts for 30 yards.

 

 Bradford Thompson rushed for 35 yards and a score on eight carries. He led the defense with 11 tackles, two TFLs, two quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.

 

 Zaire Polite returned a fumble 48 yards for a TD while coming up with five tackles. Alonzo Allen had 10 tackles, while Dorien Alston and I’veon Watson both had two TFLs.

 

 Jayden Young returned a kickoff 91 yards for a score.

 

 South Aiken 38

Airport 15

 

Aiken South Aiken High School defeated Airport 38-15 on Friday at the SAHS field.


      South Aiken improved to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in Region 4-AAAA. Airport fell to 5-4 and 1-2.

 

 Jesse Ray Hoover led Airport by completing 17 of 33 passes for 206 yards and one TD. Avery Jones had six catches for 103 yards. Tyler Broomfield had a 14-yard TD catch.

 

 Bryant Cherry led Airport with 13 tackles.

 

 Cheraw 20

North Central 6

 

Cheraw Cheraw High School defeated North Central 20-6 on Friday at the CHS field.


      The Braves improved to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in Region 5-AA while North Central fell to 3-5 and 2-1.

 

 Keivon Ford rushed for 88 yards on 14 carries, while Cam McClendon ran for 83 yards and a TD on 13 carries to lead Cheraw

 

 Quarterback Aiden Nolan scored on a 1-yard TD run, and Thomas Chapman connected on field goals of 42 yards and 23 yards, respectively.

 

 Casey Shropshire scored North Central’s lone touchdown on a 57-yard pass from Kade Baxley.

 

 Deman Ellerbe had an interception for Cheraw.

 

 Aynor 38

Waccamaw 36

 

Aynor Aynor High School held on to defeat Waccamaw 38-36 on Friday at the AHS field.


      Aynor improved to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in Region 7-AAA, while Waccamaw fell to 3-5 and 1-2.

 

 Zaireon Skinner rushed for 110 yards and two TDs on 15 carries. Andre Grate completed just 6 of 16 passes for 48 yard, but two of them went for touchdowns. One was for 22 yards to Ben Cohen while the other was to Adrian Grate Jr. for 11 yards. Grate Jr. had 51 rushing yards on seven carries, and Kodi Williams had 53 yards on seven carries,

 

 Grate Jr. led the defense with 11 tackles, while Williams had nine. Deyshawn White had seven tackles and two TFLs.

 

 Ridge View 40

Westwood 0

 

 Columbia Ridge View High School improved to 6-2 on the season with a 40-0 victory over Westwood on Friday at the RVHS field.

 

 Breylon Boyd completed 11 of 17 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown, and Tre Howard completed 9 of 10 passes for 130 yards and two scores for the Blazers, who are 2-1 in Region 5-AAAA and were ranked 13th in AAAA. Boyd rushed for 41 yards and a score on six carries, and Howard had 10 yards on three carries.

 

 Siah Mack had eight carries for 41 yards and a score. Carter Coleman had five catches for 47 yards and a TD, Omari Johnson had two catches for 47 yards and a TD, and Kristien Jackson had four catches for 69 yards and a score.

 

 Demir Attles led the defense with six tackles, a sack and a TFL. Jayden Andrews returned an interception for a touchdown, while Myles Brown and David Matthews both had six tackles and a TFL. Brayden Brown had six tackles and an interception.

 

 Keenan 42

Eau Claire 2

 

 Columbia Keenan High School improved to 3-4 on the season with a 42-2 win over Eau Claire on Friday at the KHS field.

 

 Evan Artemus rushed for 145 yards and two TDs on 13 carries for the Raiders, who are 2-2 in Region 4-AA. He also had a catch for 12 yards. Tony Odom had a 32-yard touchdown catch.

 

 Darius Dixon and Corey Williams both returned interceptions for touchdowns,.

 

 Titus Bowman had seven tackles for loss to lead the Raiders defense. Ny’keim McNeil, B.J. Flemming and Tyreik Davenport-Smith had four TFLs apiece.

 

 Gilbert 48

Orangeburg-Wilkinson 14


        Orangeburg -- Gilbert High School remained undefeated on the season with a 48-14 victory over Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Friday at the O-W field.


      The Indians, ranked third in AAA, improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in Region 5.


      Trevon Williamson led the Indians offense with 17 carries for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Williamson also had two catches for 46 yards and a TD.

 

 Quarterback Drake Braddock completed 9 of 16 passes for 230 yards and three TDs. Krew Morris had six catches for 146 yards and two TDs.

 

 Wynn Meetze led the Gilbert defense with 20 tackles and two TFLs. Brenden Boatwright had 10 tackles and one TFL, while Gray Gunter had nine tackles and two sacks with one TFL .He also forced a fumble.

 

Chester 48

Emerald 16


        Greenwood -- Elijah Coleman scored five touchdowns to help Chester to a 48-16 victory over Emerald on Friday at the EHS field.

 

Coleman rushed for 217 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries while coming up with two catches for 74 yards and a TD.

 

 Quarterback Trooper Floyd completed 10 of 13 passes for 201 yards and two TDs. Floyd rushed for 55 yards and a TD on nine carries.

 

 Antonio Hopkins led the defense with 17 tackles, four TFLs, a sack and a fumble recovery. Darriyarn Baxley had 14 tackles and three TFLs and Diaquan McGee had 11 tackles and four TFLs.


The Cyclones, who were ranked sixth in AAA, improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 4-AAA.

 

 Williamsburg 24

Orangeburg Prep 14


         Orangeburg -- Williamsburg Academy remained undefeated on the season with a 24-14 victory over Orangeburg Prep and former Williamsburg head coach Don Shelley on Friday at the OP field.


The Stallions, ranked No. 1 in the HSSR SCISA AA Pick 6 poll, improved to 8-0. OP dropped to 3-5.

 

 Teague Ward had nine carries for 118 yards and one TD to go with two catches for 45 yards and one touchdown to lead the Stallions. Defensively, Ward had nine tackles and one TFL.


         Camden Moore rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Moore had two catches for 13 yards.


          Layton Morris led the defense with nine tackles and one TFL. JD Sholar had eight tackles and three TFLs, while Micah Balder and TJ Bennett both had an interception.

 

 Batesburg-Leesville 42

Fox Creek 14

 

North Augusta Batesburg-Leesville jujmped out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter and went on to a 42-14 win over Fox Creek on Friday at the FCHS field.

 

 Admadre Wooden ran for 165 yards and a TD on 16 carries to lead the Panthers, who improved to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in Region 3-AA.  Tanner Watkins completed 6 of 15 passes for 130 yards and a score. Jamarius Clark had three catches for 70 yards and the TD.

 

 Cole Price returned a kickoff 67 yards for a touchdown. Felipe Juarez-Diaz connected on all six of his extra point attempts.

 

 DeVontae Holmes led Fox Creek, 2-6 and 0-3, by rushing for 36 yards on nine carries, completing 3 of 6 passes for 86 yards and a score and had two catches for 26 yards and a score.

 

 Bethesda Academy 40

Northside Christian 0

 

Lexington Bethesda Academy remains undefeated after beating Northside Christian Academy 40-0 on Friday at the NCA field.

 

 Quarterback Triston Randall completed 8 of 15 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 37 yards and a TD on six carries to lead Bethesda, which improved to 9-0. Bethesda is ranked second in SCISA AA.

 

 Noah Jenkins rushed for 117 yards and a TD on 15 carries. Caleb Dillon had four catches for 62 yards, and Thomas Peters had three catches for 69 yards and a TD.

 

 Peters also returned an interception 102 yards for a score. Isaiah Reynolds had four tackles and two sacks and a forced fumble.

Blazers claim first state title since 2006

Baker Publisher Hopkins —The Gray Collegiate War Eagles edged out tradition rich Bishop England (75-72) and 30 other AA girl’s track teams, to earn the school’s first SCHSL Track & Field state championship hosted by Lower Richland High School on May, 18. The next 10 teams in the AA girl’s finals were: Fairfield Central (59), Oceanside Collegiate (50), Woodland (48), Hampton County (42), Greer Middle College (38.5) Landrum (36) Mid-Carolina (34.5), Academic Magnet (28), Keenan (24), and Marion (23). Bishop England, coached by Tony Colizzi , had been seeking their 14th state title. Gray Collegiate, won the state title with just 9 state qualifiers. The Griffins are coached by former Orangeburg-Wilkinson and Clemson track athlete Jackie Robinson . “The good thing is that we won as a team, and it was not just from one person,” said Coach Robinson. “It was everybody collectively, and all season long these ladies have sacrificed, and they did not complain while putting in the work. They came to work every practice and it paid off for them today. “To win a state championship it takes a lot of hard work and dedication and you have to put in the hours,” said Coach Robinson. “You have to be disciplined and true to your focus of self-improvement. Getting involved in year-round track programs certainly helps you to become better. Track has become a year-round sport now, and it takes a lot of hard work “I knew coming in we had a chance but only if we had several PR’s in a few events and it trusted each other to do our very best,” said Coach Robinson. “Winning a championship with only 9 state qualifiers is a testament to those young ladies. We have a lot of quality, but not quantity, on both our teams at Gray.” The War Eagles took three first place finishers in individual events from Tresta Miller in the 400 meters (58.33), Aubrey Guy in the 100-meter hurdles (15.42) and Tamara Steward in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.00). Miller picked up two second place finishes for GC in the 100-meters (12.04) and the long jump (5.51m) producing 16 additional points for her team. Guy was third in the 400-hurdles ((1:08.60) and Steward was 5 th in the long jump (5.02m). Zaria Gaines contributed points in the 100-meters (12,57) and in the 200-meters (26,27) with a 7 th and 8 th place finish respectively. GC placed second in both the 4x100 (48.98) and the 4X100 Relay (3:27.82) to earn 16 total points. The 4X100 was ran by Steward, Gaines, Taylor Jones and Guy. The 4X400 was run by Steward, Amariah Gonzalez , Taylor Jones and Gaines. While Gray and BE competed back-and-forth throughout the even, Fairfield Central senior Sharmelle Holmes was dominating the competition once again, with three individual gold medals and another gold medal as a participant on the winning 4X100 relay. Holmes set a new state record in the 100-meters (11.45). when she ran the anchor leg. Holmes, She was first in the 200-meters (23.57) and took gold in the long jump (19-02.75). Holmes has signed to run track at Kentucky . She produced 32.5 points for her team and is the leading candidate for the 2024 HSSR-SCHSL Miss Track awards in South Carolina. After the majority of the gold medal winners left their moment of honor, on the victory podium at the meet, the HSSR asked them to share how they were able to beat the field in the respective event. Holmes was among the most enthusiastic performers interviewed. “This is the second year that I have won four gold medals and it makes all the hard work worthwhile,” said Holmes. “I participated in four individual events last year and this year I traded out the 100-hurdles to run anchor on the 4X100 relay. It’s a woo-woo moment for me with the state record! “I had hoped to set a state record but I will tell everybody who competed with me that it takes hard work to win gold medals at a state track meet,” said Holmes. “I am really grateful to God for all of my success. I am excited to be going on to the University of Kentucky. Go Wildcats!!” Tresta Miller (Gray Collegiate-junior) won the 400-meters (58.33 and she has a 57.01 personal best earlier this season) and she told the HSSR , “My goal is just to take off fast, maintain a steady speed, and leave something in the tank for a strong kick down the stretch,” she said. “Next year my goal is winning the 200 and the 400 and I hope to run a 55 flat in the 400 next seasons.” Freshman Aubrey Gray of Gray Collegiate won the 100-meter hurdles (15.42). “I would love to set a state record in the 100-hurdles by my senior year,” she said. “I also want to also be a double winner with a win the 400 hurdles in the future.” Batesburg Leesville’s sophomore Ja’Quan Corley won gold in the discus with a personal best of (157.01.75). “I would love to get a track scholarship by my senior year,” said Corley. “My technique is to always turn my left foot and get across the circle.” Oceanside Collegiate senior Joyce Siobhan was a double winner in the 1600-meters (4:59.03) and in the 3200 (11:06.09). She was proud of finally running a sub-five-minute 1600 that had been her goal all season. She will be running track at South Carolina next year. “My strategy is to stay near the front of the pack in either race and then kick it hard at the end,” said . “At South Carolina I will be more of a 5-K runner in cross country.” Oceanside Collegiate junior Kailen Kramer won the pole vault (3.80m). “My winning jump was 12’ 6” and I missed at my personal best attempt at 13’ 1”,” said Kramer. “My technique is not to slow down on my last few steps down the lane and hitting it hard, dropping my shoulders back and shooting for the sky ,” she said. “My goal is 14’ at the state meet next year and I would love to compete in college.” Senior Sinead Joyce of Oceanside Collegiate won the 800-meters (2:18.19) for the second year in a row. “I usually start out not super conservative but at a steady pace, but today I probably started out a little too fast,” she said. “I will be running at South Carolina next season. My goal is to respond to good college coaching and keep improving.” The AA girl’s shot put (10.77m) was won by Eau Claire junior Sytiria Bethel . “If feels great to see all the all- hard work pay off,” she said. “My goal by next year is 38 feet. My technique is using the power throw. I never change my technique.” Senior Sydney Price of Landrum won the Javelin toss (15.66m) for the third year in a row at the AA meet. “I have improved every year but today I threw around 128 feet and my personal best is 134,” said Price. “Everybody thinks it is your arm in throwing the Javelin but it really more the use of your hips and legs,” said Price. “Getting a good block and then throwing your hips into it is very important.” Price has actually signed to play softball at North Greenville College . She is a middle infielder with 30 career home runs. Keenan High senior Lauren Hannibal won the triple jump (11.02m). “I hit the board just right today on my final spring and I knew it was going to be among my best jumps ever and it was,” said Hannibal. “It feels great to go out with a gold medal my senior year.”

Summerville loses on forfeit over pitch-count rule violation

Baker Publisher Moncks Corner — In a Lower State AAAAA softball play-off game continued from a second inning rain-out the night before, (May, 15), between Berkeley (19-9) and Chapin (22-8) , the home standing Stags won a pitcher’s duel 2-0 to advance to play Summerville on May, 17. The Stags have a tall order on their plate needing to defeat the top-ranked Green Wave twice in order to advance. The state championship series is scheduled to begin on Monday at the upper state champion s home field. Game two will revert back to the lower state’s team home field on Wednesday. If a third game tie-breaker is needed it will be played at neutral site on Friday (May, 24). After the win Berkley head coach Kelly Dillon shared some thoughts with the HSSR. “In my tenure at Berkeley this is our third trip to the Lower state finals and I am so proud of my team and the adversity they have overcome this season,” said Coach Dillon. “We have had some adversity with the weather and we lost one of our key players to an injury recently ( Savannah Scott ) and we have remained tough and focused on our goals anyway. “We played small ball in the bottom of the 6th because when you need just one run to win you play to win,” said Coach Dillon. “I am very thankful; for a great bunting team. Every time I have asked for it to be put down, they have put it down so I am very proud to our commitment to the cause.” ( Courtlyn Cox delivered a perfect bunt that advanced the runner into scoring position in the bottom of the 6 th inning.) “We know we have a challenge going over to Summerville on Friday needing to win two games and you never know what might happen,” said Coach Dillon. “We are hungry and we are on a mission and we are playing moment to moment so we hope to at our best on Friday.” Chapin head coach Cal Sayger is wrapping up his 7 th season at Chapin. ”we have been fighting the weather all during the play-offs,” said Coach Sayger. “We just made too many mistakes in this game tonight. We have the program on sound footing. We have won back-to-back region titles and I very proud of the commitment all of our players have made to the success tour program.” Coach Sayger is saying good bye to four seniors. They include pitcher Aspen Mayers , Ella Maychiva k, third baseman Andree Dircks , and outfielder Alexia Evans . “These girls have been in the program since the e8th grade a d they will be missed,” said Coach Sayger. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 6 th inning. The Stags Rileigh Ballentine led off with a single to center field. Courtlyn Cox’s Sac bunt moved Ballentine over to second base. She moved over to third, on a passed ball, while Brooklyn Moon was batting. Moon singled in Ballentine for the first run of the game. Ansley Riddle then doubled, barely missing a home run against the fence in deep center field. This hit put runners at second and third with one-out. An RBI ground-out by Camden Valicek scored Moon to give Berkeley all the runs they would need to win the game. Berkeley pitcher Reese Watson worked all seven innings, allowing only four hits. Watson’s six strike-outs in the game now gives her 201 on the season in 120 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.20.
