Laurens – Laurens Academy held its athletics awards banquet for the 2022-23 school year on Friday, May 19, and Olivia Huck was the big winner, being named the Most Valuable Player in three different sports.
Huck was selected as the MVP of the girls basketball team, which played for the SCISA Class A state championship. Huck was also named the MVP for the softball team and the girls MVP for the sporting clays team.
Madison Sherman was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the volleyball team, which won the Class A state championship. Campbell Sherman won the Offensive MVP award while Huck was selected as the winner of the Defensive MVP award. Emily Suttles won the Hustle Award.
Laurens defeated Cambridge Academy for the volleyball title by a 3-1 score. The Crusaders survived a 25-15 loss in the first game and rebounded to win the final three by scores of 25-20, 27-25, 25-21. The Crusaders finished the season with a 31-4 record.
The Most Valuable Player for the football team was Andrew Codington. Clarence Bertoli was chosen as the Offensive MVP while Garrett Murphy was named the Defensive MVP. Buddy Baker won the Coaches Award, and the Big Wheel award went to Garrison Vaughan.
Baker was selected as the Offensive MVP for the boys basketball team, while Bertoli was named the Defensive MVP. The Toughness Award went to Codington, while Jared Wllard was selected as the Most Improved.
Willard was chosen as the Offensive MVP for the baseball team. Braydon Burke was honored as the Defensive MVP, and Evan Asalone was named the Most Improved. The Coaches Award went to Caleb Hardy.
Rylee Ballard was selected as the Defensive MVP for girls basketball. Suttles won the TNT Award and Gracie Hall won the Joshua 1:9 Award. For softball, Suttles was chosen as the Offensive MVP, while Morgan Bolding was named Most Improved and Abby Howard won the Silver Slugger award.
On the sporting clays team, Elias Littleton was named the Boys MVP while Eli Garrett was selected as the Most Improved.
For the cheerleading team, Maggie Collins was named Most Dedicated. Elloree Asalone was named Most Imprved, Lillie Davenport was named Most Spirited and Catherine Riddle won the Coaches Award.
Bodington was named the Male Scholar Athlete, and Stella Smith was named the Female Scholar Athlete.
