Sumter – Jody Gillam hit two free throws with no time left on the clock to lift Holly Hill Academy to a 44-42 win over Richard Winn Academy in the first round of the SCISA Class A boys basketball state tournament on Saturday at Wilson Hall’s Nash Student Center.
Holly Hill will take on Charleston Collegiate on Tuesday in a quarterfinal game at Nash Student Center at 7:30 p.m.
Gillam, a junior, led the Raiders with 21 points. Eighth-grader Nick Lindsay followed with 15.
Junior Charlie Bonds led Richard Winn with 19. Senior Drew Spires had eight, while sophomore Bennett Nickolson and Miller Stuck both had five.

Lee Academy 67
Sumter – Andrew Jackson Academy scored 62 points in the first half on the way to a 100-67 victory over Lee Academy in the first round of the SCISA AA boys basketball state tournament on Saturday at Wilson Hall’s Nash Student Center.,
The Warriors, who are 17-16, will face Patrick Henry in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., again at Wilson Hall.
AJA led 31-11 after one quarter and 62-37 at halftime. Gage Dicks led the way with 33 points, scoring 14 apiece in both the second and third quarters.
Hayden McClung and Carter Brown both scored 17 points. Ollie Barnes had 14 , and Colin Carter had 12.
Lee’s Andrew Bowers led all scorers with 36 points. Brayden Davis finished with 19, and Lance Friedenberger had six.
Wilson Hall 58
Northwood 53
Sumter – Wilson Hall scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to pull out a 58-53 win over Northwood Academy on Saturday in the first round of the SCISA AAAA boys basketball state tournament at Sumter Civic Center.
The Barons will take on defending state champion Augusta Christian School at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the civic center.
Hugh Humphries scored eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter at WH rallied from a 39-36 deficit entering the final stanza. Knox Buxton also had eight foruth-quarter points to finish with 14. Daniel Burton scored 13, six of them coming in the final quarter.
Shawn Michael Matthews also had seven points for WH.
Rhett Hill and Tyler Jones both had 12 points to lead Northwood. Chris McGill and Josh Roeal both had nine points, while Dykes Dickson had seven.
Spartanburg Day 63

Sumter – Payne Wood scored 24 points to lead Spartanburg Day School to a 63-46 victory over Williamsburg Academy on Saturday in the first round of the SCISA AAA boys basketball state tournament at Wilson Hall’s Nash Student Center.
Spartanburg Day will take on defending state champion and upper bracket No. 1 Hilton Head Prep on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Sumter Civic Center.
Mark Tan added 13 points for Spartanburg Day, while Brice Henderson had 12.
Conrad Balder led Williamsburg with 10 points. Wes Smith and Teague Ward both had nine, and Micah Balder had seven.
Faith Christian 60

Sumter -- Defending SCISA Class A boys basketball state champion Faith Christian defeated Wardlaw Academy 60-53 on Saturday at Wilson Hall’s Nash Student Center in the first round.
Faith Christian will take on Riverpointe Christian in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Wilson Hall.
Faith Christian had four players score in double figures led by Elijah Brown with 17. Ian McClary added 15, while Isaiah Freberg had 12 and Bryce Coleman 10.
Colt Bailey led Wardlaw with 17 points. Nick Lee had 10, Resse Harper nine, Noah Harper eight and Matthew Murphy five.
