Jamison takes over football program at C.E. Murray

Greeleyville – The War Eagles have a new boss in charge this fall as Reginald Jamison takes over as the head football coach at C.E. Murray High School for the 2010 season.

Jamison was the team’s defensive coordinator last season as the War Eagles posted a 5-5 regular season record and lost, 14-12, to Lake View, in the first-round of the state playoffs.

Jamison moves up the ladder to direct the program this season, his first head coaching position.

“I’m excited about the opportunity and I will do the best job I can do,” said Jamison, who was named the coach in April. “I think it will help some that I know the players and they know me but we will be doing some different things offensively. The defense will be pretty much the same and I will handle most of the defense again this year.”

In terms of offense, Jamison says the War Eagles will be using a “pistol” offense, focused on running the football. He says they will also have some spread in their offense.

Jamison is in his 15th year as a coach, having served as an assistant at several schools. He has worked at Calhoun County, Jasper County and North High School, and also coached one season at Allen University.

Jamison is a native of North, South Carolina and graduated from North High School. He attended Fayetteville State University.

Currently, the new coach is short a few assistants and is hoping to get some help in August. He says Mike Kelly will coordinate the offense this fall and Socrates Rembert will work with receivers and defensive backs.

“We’re not in a position to hire coaches right now so we’ll be using the jayvee staff and b-team coaches as much as we can,” said Jamison. “We’ll practice the junior varsity and varsity together. We’ll work it out.”

Greeleyville - The C.E. Murray football team picked up one of its biggest wins in recent memory, defeating Class AAA St. James, 29-12, last week and moving their record to 2-3 on the year.
"This win ranks up there.  It's been such a long time since we've been able to put together a .500 season, and that's our goal this year.  I told the kids to enjoy the win, but there's still work to do," head coach Darren Mazyck said.
Fareal Walker led the way for the War Eagles, rushing 12 times for 75 yards and three touchdowns.  Xavier Capers added 88 yards and a score on 13 attempts.  Anthony Burgess rushed seven times for 81 yards and kicked a 25-yard field goal.  Davinick Tisdale gained 41 yards on 11 carries.
"I believe we played our best game so far last week.  We were almost flawless in the first half as far as execution went.  Then we had a weather delay and we came back out kind of sluggish and gave up a scoring drive.  But overall, I was real pleased with the way we played," Mazyck said.
Defensively it was Marcus Tisdale who recorded a team-high 11 tackles.  Randall Nesmith had nine stops with Sabien Felder right behind with seven.  Chris Pressley added six tackles and Jarrasta Joseph had five.  Walker also recorded an interception.
Next week the War Eagles square off against Lamar in the region opener for both teams.  The Silver Foxes were the pre-season pick to win the region, so C.E. Murray will have their hands full.
"They're a well-coached team.  When you play a good team like that, you have to limit your mistakes.  If you do that, you have a chance.  Our goal is to play mistake-free, keep the game as close as possible and hopefully we'll come out on top," Mazyck said.
