Silver Bluff girls basketball team ranked second in AA
Aiken – The Silver Bluff High School football team was unable to take things as far as it would have liked in the just completed season. However, head coach De’Angelo Bryant has no complaints with how the Bulldogs went about their business.
“Not reaching the pinnacle of our goal, which is to win the state championship, is still disappointing,” said Bryant, whose team finished with a 9-4 record and reached the third round of the AA state playoffs. “However, the coaching staff and I are so proud of the resiliency of this past year's team. These young men always remained positive, never quit, and always worked to achieve their goals.”
Silver Bluff had 10 players named to the All-Region 3-AA team. Leading the way was co-Region Defensive Player of the Year Jordan Boyd.
Boyd, a senior defensive lineman who signed with Georgia Tech, had 108 tackles, 33 tackles for loss and 12 quarterback sacks. The Shrine Bowl selection also had an interception he returned for a touchdown.
The other All-Region selections were senior linebacker Jayden Fuller, senior defensive tackle Jaydon Eason, senior linebacker Gerald Lark II, senior cornerback DesJuan McCorkle, sophomore wide receiver Hiszari Gantt, senior quarterback Mickenzie Atterbery Jr., junior offensive lineman Garris Chambers, senior offensive tackle Christian Echols and senior kicker Hunter Casper.
Fuller signed with Miami (Ohio) and was selected as the AA Upper State Defensive Player of the Year by the South Carolina Football Coaches Association and was also selected to play in the Shrine Bowl. He led the Bulldogs in tackles with 140 and had 25 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, three pass breakups and one interception he returned for a touchdown.
Eason had a team high 39 tackles for loss among his 103 tackles. He also had six sacks and two forced fumbles. McCorkle had 41 tackles, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
Atterberry completed 75 of 136 passes for 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns. Gantt caught 34 passes for 589 yards and four touchdowns.

The eight All-Region seniors were part of a 17-man senior class. The Bulldogs will have a total of eight returning starters next year.
GIRLS BAKSETBALL OFF TO FAST START
The girls basketball team won six of its first seven games and appears to be on trek to another strong season.
Silver Bluff is ranked second among AA schools in the latest South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association poll.
The Bulldogs are led by seniors Ahminah Taylor and Krystal Johnson. Taylor, named one of the top five senior girls in AA by the SCBCA, was leading the team in scoring at 16.4 points per game, assists at 3.2 and steals at 4.2 She was also averaging 4.6 rebounds.
Johnson was averaging 16.2 points and team highs in rebounds at 9.0 and blocked shots at 1.4. She was averaging 2.8 steals and 1.4 assists.
Another senior, Makya Bing, was averaging 6.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals. Junior Trinity Wilson was averaging 5.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 steals.
The Bulldogs are after their fourth straight region title. They’ve gone 47-9 over the three previous seasons and played for the 2021 state title.
